WhatsApp is finding ways to improve user experience on the platform, and in the latest move, the Facebook-owned company rolled out 'Group Description' feature to Android and Windows Phone users. This feature allows any participant in a particular group to add a description to the group and the maximum length of the description, for now, is 500 characters. Currently, this feature is available only for Android users running WhatsApp Beta version 2.18.54 and Windows Phone users on beta version 2.18.28, but it will be soon rolled out to iOS users. Head over to Google Play Store and join WhatsApp beta program to get this feature right away.
A Group Description is something requested by many users out there, especially after WhatsApp implementing the chat invite links. So if a user sets any description to a group and sends the group invite to a new person, they can read the description before joining the group. The group description will be visible right above the 'Join Group' button.
Currently, WhatsApp is allowing any member of the group to edit the description of the group, but very soon, it will be rolling out granular controls, where a group administration can deny the participants to edit the description.
WhatsApp's granular controls for group admins will be called as 'WhatsApp Privacy' options when it goes official. WhatsApp already rolled out 'Demote as Admin' feature to Android users, allowing a group administrator to revoke the administrator rights of a fellow group admin without removing from the group. Also, in the future updates, WhatsApp is said to add a lot of new controls to admins.
