OnePlus is now rolling out a new stable software update to the OnePlus 5 users which brings in the most requested Face Unlock feature. Earlier, OnePlus rolled out the same Face Unlock feature to Open Beta users on 'huge demand' from the users. The new OxygenOS with version 5.0.2 is now rolling out as an incremental one with only a few users expected to receive it in the first phase of the rollout. The broader rollout of the update will begin in the coming days once OnePlus verifies that there are no bugs in the version.

However, if you can't wait for the update, just install a VPN and connect it to Germany or Canada location to receive the OTA update right away. Apart from the Face Unlock feature, the OxygenOS 5.0.2 update also addressed the bugs which existed in the earlier version, and OnePlus also updated all its applications with latest versions.

Here's the changelog for the OxygenOS 5.0.2 update for the OnePlus 5:

  • System
    Added Face unlock function
    Applied CPU security patch: CVE-2017-13218
    General bug fixes and improvements
  • Applications
    Updated Launcher to v2.2
    Updated Gallery to v2.0
    Updated Weather to v1.9
    Updated File Manager to v1.7.6
  • Camera
    Enhanced EIS for video recording

Users on the OxygenOS 5.0.1 update will receive this new OTA update in the next few days. And for the unaware, this update is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. It's good to see OnePlus adding new features to its older smartphones and improving them time to time.

In other news, OnePlus also rolled out the first stable Android 8.0 Oreo update to the OnePlus 5T smartphone. The OxygenOS 5.0.2 Update is currently rolling out to all the 5T users which also brings all the Android 8.0 Oreo features to the smartphone.
