Since the last week of 2017, South Korean smartphone brand Samsung is teasing a new mid-range smartphone launch in the Indian market. Samsung will be launching the Galaxy On7 Prime smartphone in the country as an Amazon India exclusive. The e-commerce portal has now revealed the complete specifications of the Galaxy On7 Prime, sans the launch date and price. However, with Amazon confirming the device name, the smartphone is expected to go official anytime this week.
Samsung is already selling various Galaxy On lineup models in India, and the On7 Prime will be put against the likes of Xiaomi Mi A1 and Moto G5S Plus. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. And it's an IPS LCD display, not an AMOLED display like other Samsung smartphones available in the same price range.
The On7 Prime will be powered by Samsung's in-house Exynos 7870 octa-core chipset along with ARM Mali-T830 MP2 GPU which takes care of graphics in the smartphone. The smartphone is listed with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, which is a letdown as most of the manufacturers are eying to release their devices with Android 8.0 Oreo on board.
The device will be available in two storage options- one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and the other one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There will be a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB. The smartphone will sport unimetal body design and has support for 4G LTE and VoLTE.
The highlight of the On7 Prime would be the Samsung Pay Mini feature. It is the first On series smartphone to feature Samsung Pay Mini, which is stripped down version of the Samsung Pay. Samsung Pay Mini allows you to make instant payments using UPI and other Indian digital wallet apps such as Paytm.
Cameras in the Galaxy On7 Prime include a 13MP rear camera and a 13MP front-facing camera. Both cameras feature f/1.9 aperture. Samsung is promising better low-light performance with the On7 Prime. The rear camera also comes equipped with an LED flash. Sadly, there's no dual camera setup on this device. So, we in India have to wait a bit longer for Samsung mid-range device with dual camera setup.
It' still unknown when Samsung is planning to launch this device. The company may launch it tomorrow itself at the scheduled Samsung Galaxy A8+ launch event. Samsung should price the On7 Prime aggressively to retain its top spot in the Indian market.
