If you closely follow smartphone world, Huawei’ sub-brand Honor is known for setting new trends in the Indian market. The Honor 6X, launched earlier this year introduced the dual camera setup to the budget segment, which was followed by a slew of smartphones. And this year with the Honor 7X, the company is upping the ante in the mid-range segment.
That said, the device is slippery at the same time. At the back, we can see a dual camera setup with a small bump to the lens. That said, the bump isn’t as bad as the one seen on the devices such as the OnePlus 5T or the Moto G5S Plus. The device feels a bit heavy in hands, even though packing a smaller 3340mAh battery. The weight is not evenly distributed is what I would say.
The front of the phone is mostly dominated by the 18:9 display, and at the bottom, there’s the Honor logo printed in white colour. I received the Blue colour variant of the Honor 7X, which looks way better than the other two colour options- Black and Gold.
The Honor 7X has a 5.93-inch Full HD+ display, and it’s better than the one seen on the Honor 6X smartphone. This display gets bright enough in daylight conditions, and like any other mid-range smartphone, it attracts fingerprint smudges which affect the overall viewing experience.
Honor 7X Hardware, Software, and Battery
Honor started using its own chipsets since the Honor 6X, and it continues the same with the Honor 7X smartphone. Like the recently released Honor 9i smartphone, the Honor 7X is also powered by the Kirin 659 SoC which is built on the 16nm manufacturing process. The performance of the Kirin 659 chipset is equal to the Snapdragon 625 chipset, but the power efficiency will be better on the latter due to the 14nm manufacturing process.
The chipset is accompanied by 4GB of RAM and comes in two storage options- 32GB and 64GB. Honor might launch a 128GB storage as well in the country very soon as they have sent us the 128 gigs storage option for review. There’s a hybrid card slot for storage expansion.
Software side of things, the Honor 7X runs EMUI 5.1 out of the box built on top of Android 7.0 Nougat. EMUI is one of the feature-rich and heavy skins out there, which doesn’t require any introduction. Stock Android Nougat features such as split screen multitasking; the quick reply is present on top of EMUI features such as app twin, simple twin, etc. Honor is expected to release Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of January 2018.
This entire package is backed by a 3340mAh battery, and the sad part is there’s no fast charging support, which is underwhelming. That said, it’s major competitor, the Xiaomi Mi A1 also doesn’t come with fast charge support. The Honor 7X might deliver a complete day of battery life, which will be tested in the coming days. The sad part is Honor has gone with a micro USB port, instead of the USB Type-C port.
Honor 7X Cameras
The Honor 7X features dual camera setup at the back- a 16MP primary sensor and a secondary 2MP depth sensor. The camera application offers a lot of modes such as wide aperture, depth mode, moving picture, and a full-fledged manual mode. Up front, the phone has an 8MP selfie camera with beauty mode.

Conclusion
The Honor 7X is priced at Rs 12,999 for the base 4GB RAM+32GB storage model, and it costs Rs 15,999 for the 4GB RAM+64GB storage option. The bigger storage model is a sort of overpriced one, in my opinion, considering the fact that it brings just 32GB more storage. If you’re looking for a good looking smartphone with all the current trends, then get the Honor 7X base variant without any delay.
The Honor 7X competes with the upcoming 2018 mid-range smartphones such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Motorola Moto G6 Plus, etc. And both the smartphones are expected to come with a bezel-less display and dual camera setup too.
