Motorola has officially launched its mid-range smartphone, the Moto X4 in the Indian market. The Moto X4, unlike its previous siblings, caters into the mid-range market and sits between the Moto Z2 Play and Moto G5S Plus. Like other Motorola devices, the Moto X4 comes in two variants- 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB. The former costs Rs. 20,999, and the latter is priced at Rs. 22,999.

The Moto X4 seems to be a great option for the asking price, it sure does, thanks to the stellar hardware offering from Motorola. The phone offers flagship features at a mid-range price. I have spent some time with Moto X4 at the launch event, and here are my impressions on the same.

Design and Display: A Beauty!

The standout feature of the Moto X4 is its design. The phone features glass and metal design. A metal frame is sandwiched between the Corning Gorilla Glass on front and back. The glass back is what makes the Moto X4 special, it reflects on how you tilt the smartphone.

The flagship feature offered by Motorola is the IP68 water and dust resistant properties. There are several flagship phones in the market, which doesn't have any certification for water and dust, but Motorola chose to add an IP68 rating to the Moto X4, which is another standout feature.

The Moto X4 has a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass technology protecting it. The display has decent viewing angles, but I didn't get a chance to take the smartphone to bright sunlight.

Hardware and Software: The First Snapdragon 630 Smartphone!

The Moto X4 becomes the first Snapdragon 630 SoC smartphone to launch in India. The phone is powered by the 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 630 SoC, which is coupled with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage. There's a microSD card slot for storage expansion, but unfortunately, it's a hybrid slot.

The phone comes with a fingerprint scanner, which can be found below the display. The Moto X4 is backed by a 3000mAh battery, which can last for an entire day with a single charge, thanks, to the power efficient Snapdragon 630 chipset. Motorola also added Turbo Charge fast charging support to the Moto X4.

Like other Motorola devices, the phone ships with near stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with a few more software additions such as Moto Key, a special wireless Bluetooth feature with which you can connect four wireless Bluetooth audio accessories at the same time.

Speaking of the Moto Key feature, this feature allows you to secure your files. And it even allows you to unlock your Windows machine with the fingerprint scanner present on the Moto X4. All you need to do is to download the Moto Windows application and complete the setup process.

Other Moto exclusive features such as Moto Display, Moto Voice, One-Hand Navigation bar, etc are present on the Moto X4 as well.

Cameras-Wide Angle Sensor is Icing On the Cake

The Moto X4 comes with a dual rear camera setup. It has a primary 12MP f/2.0 sensor and a secondary 8MP f/2.2 sensor at the back. The former captures standard RGB shots while the latter captures wide-angle shots. The camera application is also tweaked to take advantage of the secondary sensor.

Also, there's a Portrait mode in the smartphone to capture images with bokeh effect. There's a depth editor feature as well with which you can adjust the blur effect on the Portrait mode image even after capturing it. There are other modes such as selective focus, selective blur, etc.

The rear camera of the Moto X4 can record 4K videos at 30fps, while the front camera can capture videos of 1080p quality. Up front, the phone comes with a 16MP front-facing camera along with support for an LED flash, and there are modes such as Panorama selfie and beauty mode for the front camera as well.

Conclusion: The Sub Rs. 25,000 Smartphone We've Been Waiting For!

Having said that, the Moto X4 seems to be a great option in the sub Rs. 25,000 price bracket. There isn't a single good smartphone under Rs. 25,000, but the Moto X4 is here to conquer the same. The glass body design, IP68 rating, dual camera setup, and Snapdragon 630 SoC, 16MP selfie camera are the highlights of the Moto X4.
