Google Pixel 2 Lineup Gets New Display Profiles and Fading Navigation Bar With the November Security Patch Update

Ever since Google released the Pixel 2 devices, they are the talk of the town, especially the bigger Pixel 2 XL, thanks to the laundry of display issues. There are two major issues on the Pixel 2 XL's display- one is the blue shift and the other one is burn-in, which is a common issue with every OLED display smartphone.

However, late last month, Google promised to fix these issues with a software update, and keeping up the promise, the company has now released a new update to the Pixel 2 smartphones. In fact, it released the same update to first generation Pixel smartphones and some Nexus smartphones as well, however, the Pixel 2 lineup gets more features than others.

For other devices, the same update brings November security patch fixes, and for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, it brings new colour profiles. Previously, under the display section on Pixel 2 and 2 XL, there's a single Vivid colours option, but it is now replaced with colour profiles.

Under colour profiles, we get three options- boosted, natural, and saturated to adjust the colour profile as per our choice. The saturated colour profile is the best one of the three as it makes the display more vibrant than earlier, whereas the boosted and natural profiles pop out natural colours.

Furthermore, with this update, Google is also fixing other display issues in the Pixel 2 devices. This update brings in the fading navigation bar feature with which the navigation bar fades away after some time of inactivity. This is the same feature Google was testing out in the Android 8.1 Developer Preview 1. Thankfully, Google has already included the feature in a stable build.

In addition, Google also said that it will be fixing all the display issues on the Pixel 2 devices with the December update, and even, the company might push the Android 8.1 Update by the end of 2017. "Further enhancements will be included in our planned December software update," said Google in its Android security blog post.
