MediaTek has officially announced two new processors in its mid-range Helio P series – the Helio P23 and the Helio P30. These two SoCs join the Helio P25 as part of the ‘premium’ mid-range lineup and are expected to feature in smartphones like the Moto M series.
The newly launched Helio P23 and P30 are more or less the same in configuration save for a few differences like the clock speed. Powered by MediaTek’s CorePilot technology, the P23 and P30 are built on eight Arm Cortex-A53 processors operating up to 2.3 GHz for sustained high performance and unparalleled user experience. Both chipsets feature the new Mali G71 MP2 GPU, clocked at 770MHz in the P23 and 950MHz in the P30, delivering high-end graphics performance.
Another notable difference between the two chips is that the Helio P30 SoC is capable of supporting dual 16MP cameras or a single 25MP sensor. On the other hand, the Helio P23 can handle dual 13MP cameras or a single 24MP camera.
As is the case with new processors, the Helio P23 and the Helio P30 are said to bring improved performance, increased connectivity, and also offers better battery life. The Helio P23 comes with dual-SIM capabilities that support 4G VoLTE/ViLTE. Both the Helio P23 as well as the Helio P30 chipsets feature 4G LTE WorldMode modem, meaning both processors will be able to support every single network on one chipset. The Taiwanese company claimed that these also include CDMA networks.
The Helio P23 and the Helio P30 mid-range processors offer download speeds of up to 200MB per second and upload speeds of up to 150MB per second. Both SoCs pack MediaTek’s TAS 2.0 smart antenna technology inside that is claimed by the company to provide a better signal.
One of the unique features is the new Vision Processing Unit (VPN) on the Helio P30 chipset. The VPN is a stand-alone digital processor that frees up some resources on the device to make room for other important things. The VPN also helps reduce power consumption while simultaneously boosting the performance.
As for the availability, both the processors will be rolling out in the markets in the fourth quarter of this year and will first be launched in China.
