Following its tradition, the world’s leading video-streaming platform, Netflix has released the monthly ISP speed index for June 2017. According to the data released, 7 Star Digital has the best monthly average internet speed in the country. The network’s average monthly speed is down from 2.85Mbps in May to 2.77Mbps in June.

Even though the speed of 7 Star Digital is decreased, it retained the number one position. However, Specranet, India's first 100% fibre broadband service provider today announced that it had been ranked as the fastest FTTH provider by Netflix. Spectranet secured number two position in the list in the overall ISP rankings basis their primetime performance on Netflix. "India’s Spectranet increased its speed to 2.69 Mbps, up from 2.38 Mbps in May," said Netflix in its blog.

It’s worth noticing that India’s leading operator in both the mobile and broadband space- Bharti Airtel secured third place, down from the second position with an average speed of 2.63 Mbps, which is down from 2.74 Mbps it obtained last month.

Following Airtel are ACT Fibernet, Hathway, and Syscon Infoway with an average speed of 2.429 Mbps, 2.39 Mbps, and 2.27 Mbps respectively.

Spectranet's increase in streaming speed saw it rising by two ranks in the list. On this feat, Mr Udit Mehrotra, CEO, Spectranet said, “As we are trending upwards every month since the inception of this ranking in India, we are proud to be the fastest FFTH provider in the ranking, and we are looking forward to attaining the fastest ISP ranking in the near future. We have already been the fastest fibre based internet service provider basis our performance in the month of September to December 2016."

"This has been made possible by our sustained efforts to deliver innovative and disruptive services to our customers at amazingly affordable price. Being the only ISP with 100% fibre network we believe that we can advance the lives of people in urban India by creating and delivering the best Internet services which has become a basic necessity for people in this era of Third Age of Connectivity," he added.

Further, state-run operators MTNL and BSNL are standing in 12th and 13th positions delivering a speed of 1.43 Mbps and 1.26 Mbps respectively. The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance essentially means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.
