It has been already three months since the official announcement of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. Both the phones really impressed the audience with an edge-to-edge Infinity display and top-notch specs. However, Samsung is looking for something new, and we might see a smaller version of the Galaxy S8 in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Mini.
Although Samsung is already said to be working on the Galaxy S8 Active; the device will be limited to the United Status. With the Galaxy S8 Mini, Samsung is looking for a compact flagship phone, which would be released globally. It's been a while since Samsung released a mini version of the flagship phone.
Previously, the South Korean giant used to release smaller versions of the flagship phones for fun. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S5 came in one variant; then there's the Galaxy S5 Neo, Galaxy S5 Mini, etc. That said, the Galaxy S5 Mini was the last compact flagship offering from Samsung, and it was released in 2014.
Starting with the Galaxy S6 lineup, Samsung started releasing an Edge (Galaxy S6 Edge) variant of the flagship phone, alongside the original flagship. The Edge variant was killed recently in favour of the Plus (Galaxy S8+) variant.
According to the report, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Mini variant will be released 'very soon' in South Korea, the company's homeland. The S8 Mini will have the same design as its bigger siblings but comes with downgraded specifications under the hood.
The S8 Mini will not be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip. Instead, it will use the year-old Snapdragon 821 SoC, which is being used by LG G6 currently. The chipset will be supported by 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (half of the Galaxy S8 duo).
The smartphone will have a 5.3-inch 18:5:9 display, which means that it will have the form factor of a 4.7-inch device. And the device will use the same 12MP dual pixel rear camera from the Galaxy S8.
Having said that, this report came from Korean media, who did not even reveal the source of the story. We suggest you take this information with a grain of salt, but yeah a compact Galaxy S8 with a smaller price tag is indeed a great option.
