This year's Note 8 will be the successor to the Galaxy Note 7, which was discontinued after several units caught in the fire. The Note 8 will be an important smartphone for Samsung in the Note lineup. Eventually, Samsung was rumoured to cancel the entire Note series due to the fiasco of Galaxy Note 7, but they are sticking to their plans to compete with the flagship phones launching later this year.

The report says that the Galaxy Note 8 will have a 6.3-inch 18:5:9 display, same as the Galaxy S8 and S8+. And yes, the Note 8 will be a tad higher than the Galaxy S8+, which has a 6.2-inch display. It will be an edge-to-edge screen. One thing which differentiates the Galaxy Note 8 from Galaxy S8 series is the S-Pen support. Samsung will continue to support the Note lineup with the S-Pen.

Of late, there were some rumours saying that the Note 8 will be world's first smartphone to feature upgraded Snapdragon 836 chipset, but the new report says it will equip the same Snapdragon 835 chipset. However, there will be 6GB of RAM for the base variant as well. And for markets such as India, it will come with the Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC.

As it was rumoured earlier, the Note 8 will feature dual camera setup at the back. There will be two 12MP sensors, and there will be Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) support for both the sensors. The report further adds that the sensor placement would be a horizontal one, which is followed by a fingerprint scanner and heart rate sensor.

Samsung is not yet ready to integrate the fingerprint scanner under the display, and they have to make the placement change because the Galaxy S8 series received a lot of criticism for the fingerprint sensor placement.

To light up the things, Samsung is looking to add a 3000mAh battery to the Note 8, a 200mAh smaller one than the Galaxy S8+. Samsung doesn't want to repeat last year's Galaxy Note 7 debacle by embedding a big battery. The device will come with latest TouchWiz UI with improved S-Pen features such as full sentence language translation and currency conversion, etc.

The Note 8 will also come with support for DeX, which will convert your device to a work machine, same as Continuum from Microsoft. Also, the Note 8 will be compatible with the DeX machine released with Galaxy S8 and S8+.

To conduct more safety checks for the device, Samsung is pushing the launch date to September and is now expected to be unveiled in the second half of the said month. Furthermore, the device will carry a hefty price tag of €999, which will translate to a price tag of over $900. The Indian price tag will surely be around Rs. 65,000 or more than that.
