AIRCEL To Launch Mobile Application Store

India’s 5th largest GSM mobile service provider Aircel today announced the launch of Aircel Mobile Application Store in association with Infosys Technologies. The Application Store will be a centralized hub for mobile applications developed specifically for mobile phones. All the applications will be available to download, with a mixture of utilities including business, media, mapping and social networking tools.

With the “Aircel mobile application store” it’s more than 30 million GSM mobile subscribers can able to browse and download mobile applications either for free or at a cost. The concept of application store was first launched by Apple for its iPhone users and after that Blackberry and Nokia also launched the same.




Aircel COO Gurdeep Singh said that the “Will offer consumers a broad selection of most relevant applications to choose from in the most convenient manner be it through voice, SMS, GPRS or the internet on your mobile.” He also said that “Aircel's mobile application store will provide consumers greater choice to its mobile subscribers for applications related to health, finance, entertainment.”

Aircel began its outward expansion in 2005 and met with unprecedented success in the Eastern frontier circles. It emerged a market leader in Assam and in the North Eastern provinces within 18 months of operations. Till today, the company gained a foothold in 18 circles including Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Assam, North East, Orissa, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Kolkata, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, UP(West), UP(East), Maharashtra & Goa and Mumbai.
