Huawei, the Chinese smartphone OEM, is among the top 5 smartphone manufacturers globally. It has been constantly trying to push forth its home-grown Kirin chipsets for a couple of years now, but has found the process a bit difficult. The Kirin 910 didn't perform as expected but the Kirin 920 and Kirin 925 brought in a vast improvement. Now, as the company is readying up the P8 and Mediapad X2 for launch, it has decided to throw some light on the Kirin 930 chipset which will be powering them.

Huawei Kirin 930

The octa-core CPU in the Kirin 930 SoC comes with an upgraded version of ARM Cortex-A53 cores. The Cortex-A53E are clocked at a speed of 2.0 GHz, higher than that of 1.5GHz Cortex-A53. Four cores take charge of the heavy duty tasks and four of them are meant for doing tasks which do not require a lot of processing power. The company also detailed as to why it didn’t make use of the Cortex-A57 cores. They provide a boost of 56 percent in performance but it comes at the cost of a 256 percent increase in power usage. With battery life gaining more and more importance these days, the decision from Huawei appears to be quite sensible to say the least.

The coming few weeks should see the next Huawei flagship, the P8 break cover and we’ll know then as to how well the Kirin 930 performs in real world conditions.
