Xiaomi Redmi S2 Gets Listed Online With Complete Specs and Price

Xiaomi is currently preparing to launch an all next budget smartphone the Redmi S2 on May 10 in China. While the phone design and key specs have leaked over past few weeks, Xiaomi itself has started teasing the Redmi S2 ahead of its release. The Chinese company posted a series of teasers on its official Weibo account. The posters shed light on the design, camera, screen and colour variants of the upcoming devices. The Redmi S2 seen in these photos comes with a metallic design and is seen in Gold and Pink colour variants. One teaser on Weibo handle shows Liu Haoran, a Chinese actor holding a pink colour version of the device.

The front of the phone appears to be using a bezel-less screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. On the rear, the Redmi S2 is seen sporting Apple iPhone-like split antenna lines on the top and bottom of the phone. There is a dual camera system with vertically aligned cameras on the top left corner and fingerprint scanner in the middle of the panel.

In the posters, Xiaomi reaffirms the May 10 as the launch date of its Redmi S2 phone. The handset is also hinted to sport a 12MP rear camera with AI capabilities combined with a 5MP in depth sensor. The phone will be available in China through Suning.com. The price of the Redmi S2 to be under CNY 1,000 (roughly Rs 10,600) on its launch, though it is not clear which RAM and storage variant this price tag is for.

Meanwhile, even before its official launch, the global edition of Redmi S2 has already surfaced on popular e-commerce website AliExpress.com. The listing contains the entire specifications of the phone along with its pricing and images.

The Redmi S2 is listed on AliExpress.com in three colour versions – Grey, Gold and Pink. Though the listing doesn’t reveal exact pricing, it puts it somewhere between $159.99 (approx. Rs 10,739) and $187.99 (approx. Rs 12,618).

As for the specs, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 sports a 5.99-inch 18:9 display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The smartphone is powered by 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor paired with 3GB RAM along with 32GB of internal storage on board. Previous reports indicate we could expect two other variants with 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage models.

The Redmi S2 sports two cameras at the back- a primary 12MP OmniVision OV12A10 sensor and a secondary 5MP Samsung S5K5E8, along with a single 16 MP camera on the front accompanied with “Selfie Light”. The Redmi S2 is backed by 3080mAh battery and runs MIUI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The same smartphone could be launched in India as an Android One edition.
