Apple's latest iPhone 16 series has outperformed the competitive flagship devices from Samsung, and the previous generation iPhones in the 5G department in India. While the 5G experience in a particular device can be affected by several factors, not in the control of the OEM (original equipment maker), the iPhone 16 on average has performed better than other devices, suggests a recent Ookla report.
The median download speed for the iPhone 16 series with 5G in India was 261.57 Mbps and upload was 17.35 Mbps with 44ms latency. Compared to this, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series delivered a download speed of 251.17 Mbps and an upload speed of 19.69 Mbps with 47ms latency. The iPhone 15 and the iPhone 14 series were behind as well.

The iPhone 16 series is powered by the A18 Bionic and A18 Pro chips. These chips are accompanied by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 5G modem. The modem, along with the chipset, is one of the major reasons for the network performance. Along with that, the design of the device, and the placement of antennas also make a difference.
In India, Jio and Bharti Airtel are the two players that are offering 5G services to customers. In the flagship phone department, according to Ookla, the iPhone 16 series will give the best average download and upload speeds along with low latencies. However, very soon, we will have other new flagship phones from Android OEMs that will sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. These devices are also expected to show an improved network experience with 5G over the previous-generation devices.
