Google recently launched the Pixel 9 series globally. The Pixel 9 series has four devices, one foldable, and three regular devices with one being the vanilla Pixel 9 and the other being the Pro variants. The Pro variants including the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature LTPO display panels. This helps with supporting variable refresh rate on the go allowing for more efficient battery use. While the LTPO panel will feature on the Pro variants that are shipped within India, there won’t be support for Wi-Fi 7.

The global variants of Pixel 9 Pro support the Wi-Fi 7 connectivity standard. Wi-Fi 7 is already supported by several devices on the Indian market. But you should not sweat about this at all. This is likely because the regulatory authorities in India don’t allow for Wi-Fi 7 connectivity to be promoted. The device likely has the hardware required to support Wi-Fi 7. But it has been disabled by Google or not promoted because of the regulations in India.

The Indian government has not delicensed the 6 GHz spectrum that will be crucial for the promotion of Wi-Fi 7. Telcos want to use it for mobile networks while tech companies have been promoting the use of 6 GHz spectrum for Wi-Fi services. Even if your device supported Wi-Fi 7, you wouldn’t stand to gain anything from it, if you live in India.
