BSNL to Bring a New Rs 249 FTTH Broadband Plan to Boost Rural Connectivity

BSNL's Rs 249 plan will come with 10 Mbps of speed and 10GB of data but will be offered for free initially so that there are more adopters of the service in rural India. This will also help the company in expanding its subscriber market share. Note that the price will also include 18% GST upon the final billing.

Highlights

  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run telecom operator in India, has plans to bring a new broadband plan for customers.
  • People living in rural areas generally have less disposable incomes, and thus, the plans that work in the urban towns and cities won't work in the rural parts.
  • Keeping this in mind, BSNL is soon going to introduce a new affordable Rs 249 FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) plan.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run telecom operator in India, has plans to bring a new broadband plan for customers in rural areas to boost connectivity. People living in rural areas generally have less disposable incomes, and thus, the plans that work in the urban towns and cities won't work in the rural parts. Keeping this in mind, BSNL is soon going to introduce a new affordable Rs 249 FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) plan. According to a report from the IndianExpress, BSNL's Nodal Officer, Akash Upasani, said that from August 1, BSNL will offer a new Rs 249 plan to customers in rural India. Let's check out the benefits of this plan.

BSNL Rs 249 Plan

BSNL's Rs 249 plan will come with 10 Mbps of speed and 10GB of data but will be offered for free initially so that there are more adopters of the fixed-line broadband service in rural India. This will also help the company in expanding its subscriber market share. Note that the price will also include 18% GST upon the final billing.

The same plan will also be available for customers in urban cities, but it would cost Rs 299 plus 18% GST.

It is worth noting that currently, BSNL still offers a pretty affordable Rs 329 + 18% GST plan to customers in select states. This plan comes with 20 Mbps of speed and 1TB of data and feels like a much better option than the Rs 249 plan. While there is indeed a price difference between both the plans, the 20 Mbps plan would offer a much more consistent experience as it is faster and bundles way more data.

BSNL has lost its number one rank to Jio and slipped to the number three rank in the wireline subscriber market share. The state-run telco offers very competitive plans under its Bharat Fiber service portfolio.
