Recently Xiaomi upgraded some of its new Redmi and Mi phones to the latest MIUI 10 update. But then, soon after that Xiaomi announced that it’s stopping the software support for some of its old phones including the Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3. This means both these phones will no longer get any new software updates or new features or Android security patches. Alongside announcing the stoppage of this service Xiaomi had also said that the MIUI 10 Global update will be the last update for three of its phones including the Mi 5, Mi Note 3 Snapdragon variant.
Among the two Xiaomi phones, the Mi 5 users already received Android Oreo-based MIUI 10 update a couple of months ago, but that sadly wasn’t the case with the Redmi Note 3 users. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 users until now have been complaining of not getting the Android Oreo update based on MIUI 10. But now, looks like the wait is over as Xiaomi has started pushing out the MIUI 10 update to the Redmi Note 3 users. But sadly, the MIUI 10 update that Redmi Note 3 users are receiving is based on Android Marshmallow.
Redmi Note 3 Finally Gets MIUI 10 Update
Xiaomi has a good track record of upgrading its phones to the latest software. The company is doing exactly the same with its two to three years old Redmi and Mi phones. Although Xiaomi has announced to longer push out software updates to some of its phones the last software update that they have been left with is MIUI 10. Xiaomi is great on pushing out the MIUI updates to its phones, the company isn’t very well known at rolling out Android updates. This also seems to be the case with the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon edition.
Redmi Note 3 Launched With Android Lollipop
The Redmi Note 3 users are finally receiving MIUI 10 update, but sadly that’s based on the Android Marshmallow and not Android Oreo. To recall, the Redmi Note 3 was launched with MIUI 7 on top of Android 5.1 Lollipop. Xiaomi later rolled out MIUI 8 update followed by the Android Marshmallow update to the Redmi Note 3. Even since then there has been no Android upgrades coming to the Redmi Note 3, however, the phone did get the MIUI 9 and later updates. And now, the latest MIUI 10 is being pushed out to the Redmi Note 3 users.
Unfortunately, the last Android update that the Redmi Note 3 received was the Android Marshmallow. Xiaomi rolled out the MIUI 9 Global Stable for the Redmi Note 3 in this year around January. The MIUI 10 Global Stable update for the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon variant is now rolling out to all users. Ensure to connect the phone to a Wi-Fi network before downloading and installing the update as it measures 1.1GB. The update can be downloaded via a Recovery ROM and can be flashed via the MIUI Updater app without the need for an unlocked bootloader.
It is important to note that as the MIUI 10 update is based on Android Marshmallow, it will lack several important features which are found in Android Nougat and Oreo-based MIUI 10.
