At a press event held in New Delhi, Amazon revealed that the Android app and the mobile website have undergone a server-side update after which users will be able to spot a language option in the menu situated on the upper left side. The Hindi language support, right now, has only been extended to top products and essential shopping information. However, the navigations buttons and posters do read in Hindi after the update. Amazon also added that the search and the delivery address will need to be entered in English only as of now, although with time the e-commerce giant will extend the regional language support to other areas like product reviews and questions and answers also.

Manish Tiwary, VP, Category Management, Amazon India, remarked about this new feature, "Our aim is to ensure any customer can find anything they want on Amazon.in, anytime and anywhere, irrespective of the language they speak or where they came from. Launch of the Hindi shopping experience is a significant step towards bringing the next 100 million customers online. The first Indian language launch will enable crores of Hindi-preferring customers across India to shop in their preferred language.”

Amazon also said that the desktop website and the iOS app of Amazon would get Hindi support at a later stage. The e-commerce company also highlighted that around 50% of the total users of the website wanted their shopping experience to be in Hindi. Amazon has further shared plans that it will likely roll out support for other Indic languages later.
