LG has unveiled its second smartphone in less than a week. After launching the mid-range, LG Q7, the South Korean smartphone company has launched an entry-level smartphone, namely, the LG Candy. The price of the smartphone has been set at Rs 6,999 and it takes on the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 5A and Infinix Smart 2. However, the specifications of the handset are mediocre, especially for the asking price. LG is touting the replaceable back panels as a special feature in the handset, but the real question is, are customers interested in buying a removable back panel smartphone in 2018?
LG Candy Specifications and Features
Diving into the specifications of the LG Candy, it has a 5-inch HD display with 16:9 aspect ratio, unlike the trendy 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the phone has an unspecified quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. The chipset comes paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. For those who're interested, there's a microSD card slot as well for storage expansion up to 32GB.
Optics in the handset include an 8MP rear shooter and 5MP front-facing camera. The device measures 8.2mm in thickness and weighs 152 grams. As for the connectivity options, it has 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and a Micro USB port. The phone runs the dated Android 7.1.2 Nougat software out of the box which is underwhelming. Lastly, it's armed with a 2500mAh battery.
"LG Candy' smartphone is focused on delivering even more value to consumers looking for the right device that fits their lifestyle and needs," Advait Vaidya, Business Head-Mobiles, LG India, said in a statement.
"We're confident to capture the hearts and minds of consumers in the fast-moving market with our 'Candy' smartphone, its beautiful covers, camera technology and other features," Vaidya added.
LG Candy Colour Options, Pricing and Availability
LG announced that it would sell the device in three colour options- gold, silver and blue. The phone can be picked up for Rs 6,999 starting September 1.
LG Candy Competitors in India
For the asking price of Rs 6,999, the LG Candy will battle with the popular Xiaomi Redmi 5A and the newly launched Infinix Smart 2. The Redmi 5A is the best selling smartphone under Rs 7,000 as it packs Snapdragon 425 SoC, 2GB/3GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of internal storage and a 3000mAh battery backs the device.
