Idea Cellular equalled Reliance Jio with its Rs 199 prepaid plan because the telco is providing 2GB data benefit per day, in-line with Jio. However, Idea Cellular has opened this offer only for limited users, not every prepaid customer. Overall, Idea is offering 56GB data with the plan now, up from the 39.2GB data. For the majority of the users, the same plan is still giving 1.4GB data benefit per day for 28 days, but for select users, the plan offers 2GB data per day for 28 days. On the flip side, Jio is also providing 2GB data per day with its Rs 198 plan, along with unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day.
The Rs 199 prepaid plan from Idea also gives unlimited voice calls with daily & weekly FUP limit and 100 SMS per day for a period of 28 days. Idea Cellular is restricting the voice calls to 250 minutes per day and 1000 minutes per week. Post the free usage, users will be charged from the main balance if they have any in their account.
Reliance Jio is also offering an open market Rs 198 tariff plan, under which it's giving unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit, 100 SMS per day and 2GB data per day for 28 days. So Idea Cellular has managed to counter Jio with its Rs 199 offering, but sadly, it's limited to select users at the moment.
Idea Cellular is facing the music at the moment as the telco is struck in the middle of the merger with Vodafone India. Its been a while since Idea responded to a move from incumbent telcos in the industry. The country's third largest telecom service provider is gaining subscribers on a big number every month, but it's providing enough offers to the customers. For example, Idea is yet to respond to the JioPostpaid plan as other telcos- Vodafone and Airtel already responded with their own set of changes.
