With the increasing trend of phone vloggers and phone photography enthusiasts, there has been a dearth of equipment which caters especially to the photographers who use smartphones as their prime equipment. To help in filling this gap, Xiaomi has introduced a new three-axis stabilisation gimbal for smartphone users. This new gimbal is going to ship with three-axis stabilisation capabilities and is going to come with more features like time-lapse capturing and position tracking functionality.

The Mi handheld gimbal will make use of high-fibre composite lightweight material which will make it weigh only 476 grams even with a massive 5000mAh battery. Coming to the battery, Xiaomi is claiming that the gimbal will be able to last for an impressive 16 hours on a single full charge. The company has also said that the gimbal will support phones up to 200 grams in weight. In addition, the stabilising device also has a tripod like mount at the bottom which will help in capturing still shots.

The gimbal is also going to make use of high-precision altitude sensors and a full-closed-loop servo system which according to Xiaomi’s claims, is going to reduce jitters in real time while panning or shooting movements in general. For this device, Xiaomi is boasting an accuracy of 0.03 degrees which is extremely precise according to the present standards.

Xiaomi is also going to provide a mobile application to complement the gimbal. Using the application, the position of the mounted smartphone can easily be modified from vertical to horizontal or even upside down while recording itself. This will make sure that the user will not have to pause in between scenes to change the orientation of the smartphone. The position tracking feature will also make its place in the mobile app which will come with the gimbal. This feature, as the name suggests, will follow the movements of a person or the object on the screen when it is selected in the app. The head of the gimbal will also come with the ability of 360-degree rotation, which adds to the bunch of features.

The app will not only allow control options for movements, but it will also give users the option of manually adjusting ISO, white balance, shutter speed, focus points and other controls like zoom, timer etc.

Presently, the gimbal has made its debut in China with a price tag of 599 Yuan (approx. Rs 6,300) which is almost half or even less than for what the gimbals from DJI or Zhiyun cost. However, there has been no word about whether or not the Chinese device maker will release this gimbal outside of mainland China.
