The new Samsung Galaxy A series smartphone, the Galaxy A8 Star has received Wi-Fi certification, suggesting an imminent launch. The device already cleared certification from TENAA last month in China and as well as FCC certification. A device with Galaxy A Star moniker was also spotted on Bluetooth SIG last week. Now the Galaxy A8 Star seems to have passed through Wi-Fi Alliance’s certification process ahead of its launch. Two variants of phone bearing model numbers SM-G8850 and SM-G8858 were certified by Wi-Fi Alliance. The same smartphone was earlier touted as Galaxy S9 Mini. Samsung still said to release the device in some markets as S9 Mini only.
The certification listing of both SM-G8850 and the SM-G8858 states both the devices will feature dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac as well as Wi-Fi Direct. The certification documents also confirm that the Galaxy A8 Star will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed. Other than this information, the organisation didn’t extensively detail the specifications of the upcoming smartphone.
Earlier certifications and leaks have provided details on the key specifications and design of the Galaxy A8 Star. The smartphone is tipped to feature a glass and metal sandwich design reminiscent of other premium Galaxy series. The front will see a full-screen display with ultra-thin bezels and 18:9 aspect ratio.
On the rear, the Galaxy A8 Star is said to have an iPhone X-like vertical dual camera placement near the top left corner of the phone. There’s an LED flash below the protruding camera module. A rounded square shaped fingerprint sensor sites besides the dual camera module and the device also features the infamous Bixby button.
As for the specs, Galaxy A8 Star will feature a 6.28-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The handset is said to be driven by octa-core processor with a clock speed of 2.8GHz, with Samsung going with either of Exynos 7885 or Snapdragon 660 SoC. The CPU will be coupled with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB built-in storage.
In photography department, the A8 Star is getting a dual camera system on the rear compromising of 16MP + 24MP sensors and dual-tone LED flash. There will be another 24MP camera up front for selfies and video calling. Finally, the Galaxy A8 Star will be fueled by 3700mAh battery.
