Samsung has silently made its entry-level smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) official in the Vietnam market. The South Korean smartphone giant is busy at the CES 2018 event in Las Vegas, but that didn't stop the company to launch devices in other countries. The Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) costs around $145 (approx. Rs 9,200) and will be up for sale in emerging markets later this month. The smartphone is expected to launch in India next month or by the end of this month.

Samsung listed the smartphone in three colour options- Black, Blue, and Gold. The specifications of the smartphone are mediocre at best, and they don't justify the asking price, but let's just call it as typical Samsung pricing.

The J2 (2018) measures 143.8 x 72.3 x 8.4mm and weighs 153 grams. It flaunts a 5-inch S-AMOLED display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Samsung should have at least included a HD panel in the smartphone. The smartphone is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core chipset. Samsung did not reveal the processor model, but recent rumours have pointed at Snapdragon 425 SoC, which is present on other entry-level devices in India such as Xiaomi Redmi 5A and Tenor D.

The chipset is mated to 1.5GB of RAM, and the native storage in the device includes 16GB. There's a microSD card slot as well for storage expansion. An 8MP rear camera is present on the smartphone along with a 5MP front-facing camera. It runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. It offers several software features such as Samsung Cloud, Dual Messaging Account, Convenient Wi-Fi Switch, etc.

Lastly, the device is backed by a 2600mAh battery, which is rated to offer up to 18 hours of talk time on the 3G network. The phone comes with connectivity options such as 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and a micro USB port for charging and data transfer. There's no fingerprint scanner on this device though.

Going by the specifications of the smartphone, the J2 (2018) will take on the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A and Tenor D, but the pricing of the smartphone will be higher as compared to the other two devices. The previous two Samsung Galaxy J2 models were priced on the steeper side in the Indian market, and expect the same with J2 (2018) as well.
