The telecom industry has witnessed the biggest surge in the Mobile data consumption and the mobile internet is the next big thing. Uninor which is a majorily owned subsidiary of Telenor group has a sizeable subscribers base and offers the most affordable call tariffs.
In a recent visit to India Telenor Groups President and CEO, Jon Fredrik Baksaas shed some light on its ambition of introducing Internet for all. He also said that the project will be supporting Governments vision of a “Digital India”. Telenor expressed its ideology that Internet will propel sea of changes in how people deal with others or how they do business.
Jon Fredrik also stated that “India is seeing rapid growth in internet usage and Telenor applauds the Indian government’s vision of making affordable internet services and content available to the masses. In Uninor, the fast growth in internet usage is accelerated by strategic partnerships with online services such as Facebook and WhatsApp that stimulate usage and meets customers’ needs by offering them value and convenience. The internet is opening a world of new possibilities and helping people to transform and empower their lives”
The penetration of Internet in India is pegged at 25% which translates to 245 million users. This number is expected to skyrocket to a whopping 500 million users by 2017 which is essentially a 18%-20% year on year growth. The motivation behind this program is that Uninors internet customer base has grown by 73% in last year.
