Uninor the joint venture of Unitech and Norway telecom major Telenor whose mobile service licenses has been canceled by the Supreme Court under 2G verdict, has started its ‘Operation Shut Down’ in four telecom circles – Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Orissa.
Our exclusive sources confirms that Uninor will soon ask its users in these circles to port out their mobile number to another operator using Mobile Number Portability (MNP) prior to the scheduled suspension of Uninor Mobile services on 31st August, 2012.
Uninor has also discontinued some of its popular STVs and Special offers in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Orissa.
Earlier Uninor said that it will scale down GSM operations in four circles out of the total 13 telecom circles where it is commercially active to focus resources on the remaining areas like Mumbai, Maharashtra & Goa and seven other best performing circles such as UP East, UP West, Bihar and Jharkhand, Kolkata, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
Uninor have time till September 7 to offer their mobile services in all 13 telecom circles after which they will be forced to close down or shut down their operations in case if they fail to get a new 2G licence and spectrum in fourthcoming auction of spectrum by DoT.
The Supreem Court in February cancelled 122 licences (inclusing all / Pan India licence of Uninor) issued by the Telecom Minister A Raja in 2008 and asked the Government to conduct fresh auctions by August 31.
So whats next any predictions as a reader you would like to make ? Do share it via comments .

i want to port out from uninor to tata docomo……what is the the offer from docomo to uninor customer…?
parul December 21, 2012 at 9:42 am
Good that it is closing. It has a very bad network anyway. I spoke to the customer care named, Sagar Chowdhary, West bengal zone, about my complain, neither did he solve my problem nor did he had any curtosy to speak decently. I then asked him to transfer the call to any senior executive. He had put my call on hold and blocked my number for futher calls to customer care.
Arjun Chandrashekar December 21, 2012 at 11:46 am
UNINOR IS ALWAYS WORST WORST WORST…….
Sumanta December 10, 2012 at 9:31 am
Uninor is cheapest. It offers 2p/min call rate in home ntwrk. And far better than docomo and bsnl shit. Docomo is a piece of crap. Voice call quality and tower is too bad. Sms is nt dlvrd properly. No other cmpny can provide 2p/min call rt@ rs 12 per mnth. Its bsnl for which uninor is forced to shutdwn
ankan biswas December 7, 2012 at 1:03 am

How to check the status of portout MNP ?
Pavan August 17, 2012 at 9:19 pm
Good decision by Uninor. Get lost at the earliest. All other operators are better compared to Uninor in coverage. Now Aircel is improving. Its better than TATA DOCOMO.
Pike August 16, 2012 at 9:52 pm
Will videocon continue it’s service in TamilNadu ?
Karthik August 16, 2012 at 5:16 pm
@bijoy
Hi Bijoy, BSNL has the worst network of all operators!! You can never hear the other person…
bijoy August 14, 2012 at 8:28 am
switch over to BSNL, it will never shut down operations, BSNL have pan india coverage, economical tariff and above all transparent billing.
jigar August 13, 2012 at 9:24 pm
In Gujarat Videocon GSM shut down there network without informing customer.In my friend circle and my 1 family no. disconnected by videocon from 11-August-2012.When i contect on today nodal officer by other no. they said our network shoutdown shortly due to TRAI notice.
Abhi August 12, 2012 at 4:12 pm
Agreed.. Tata Docomo CDMA offers best blend of good tariffs and excellent network..
Saurabh Gupta August 12, 2012 at 2:05 pm
TATA DOCOMO CDMA is best for CDMA and more ethical then Reliance CDMA
Pike August 11, 2012 at 6:29 pm

ARJUN CHANDRASHEKAR August 7, 2012 at 7:29 pm
@Pandu
Well BSNL is not a Spam free Service. Instead when you travelling across Rural Areas, The BSNL Signals Quality were too Poor such that you will heard a lot of disturbance.I Agree BSNL is King in coverage But Coming to the part of Quality it is Utter Worst
Pandu August 7, 2012 at 7:07 pm
A day will come when all people switch to BSNL for its transparent and spam free services.
Wangsuk Dapru August 7, 2012 at 6:07 pm

sir plz use BSNL GSM Operator ,BSNL HAI TO SAHI HAI .
Sajjad August 7, 2012 at 2:17 pm
@mag
sir most of the mts user paid only one time 499 n its for lifetime.mts already stopped this kind of offer to new customers.

mag August 7, 2012 at 1:50 pm
@Sajjad
bsnl
525 plan is best
try it once
cheaper than all
mag August 7, 2012 at 1:48 pm
bsnl is best for all times and offerring low tariff and also giving correct billing. they are not cheating like others
anu August 7, 2012 at 12:44 pm
bsnl is best in these locations follow it
Sathish August 7, 2012 at 12:12 pm
@Pike
In Chennai Idea has 1000 GSM towers, its good.
Reliance CDMA is much better than reliance GSM.
Reliance GSM coverage is ok only in Chennai city but rest of TN – its very poor.
Idea is also very poor in RoTN.
Because both GSM network has 1800 Mhz license.
Pike August 7, 2012 at 11:25 am
Any idea about reliance network in chennai ? What about coverage and tariff ?
Rupesh August 7, 2012 at 11:03 am
Its odisha not orissa
vasanthakumar August 7, 2012 at 10:16 am
Now the time has all these private operators suck the blood out of people has to go they only know hw to make profit
sateesh August 7, 2012 at 10:11 am
This tell that Previte opertors are doing this type of coroption so only one operator govt. PSU done to save nation and less price in tariff to public so encourage BSNL and MTNL save nation from coropion
Pike August 7, 2012 at 7:09 am
Now the time to switch to other network !
Which is the cheap and best network in chennai ?
Sajjad August 7, 2012 at 5:22 am
@Sudhakar
sir Will mts continue there operation in tn. coz 499 plan mts to mts daily 100 minutes for lifetime we got lots of connections in my town vaniyambadi as cug. so Will this plan remain or not?
Sayan Chattopadhyay August 6, 2012 at 10:55 pm
@Raghu
yes i also think so. It’s too much ridiculous that with full strength signal i’m not able to make any call:( they are ignoring basic telephonic service.
Raghu August 6, 2012 at 10:08 pm
@Sayan Chattopadhyay
yes thats the best option. Till Uninor gets back their license they will not bother to improve the network anywhere where it is not good
Saurabh August 6, 2012 at 9:59 pm
I heard a news on a business channel that Uninor will bid for 9 circles while Videocon is interested in 8 circles, Tata Docomo and Idea in 3 and 9 circles respectively where they have lost license. So there are very little chances of anyone getting PAN-India. But wait, here is some twist in the story,
That news also indicated that our very own Mukesh Ambani’s company Reliance Industries will also participate in the auction and if they are participating, I’m sure we can have Reliance as Pan-India license winner.
I was just thinking whether it is just a coincidence or what? Reliance Industries wanted Goverment to set base price at 8 times to the cost licenses were given in 2008. In 2008 Pan-India licenses were provided for Rs.1651 crores. Now as per Reliance Industries recommended price it comes out to be 1651 X 8 = 13208 crores. The base price is set at 14000 crore which is near the figure of what Reliance suggested. So has the base price been set to benefit Reliance Industries? RIL has around 75000+ crores cash surplus which company needs to implement in new sectors. So money is not a problem for them. They already have Pan-India 4G spectrum. They have got the base price they wanted so that other find it hard to get spectrum as other operators are not in situation to bid.
This just can’t be a coincidence. Policies have been made to help Reliance Industries.
Like Apple surprises the Tech world, Reliance suprises the corporate arena in India. Today the stock price of Reliance Industries also jumped more than 5 percent which is highest jump since March. I’m personally holding RIL stock 200 @ 690 and today it was money making day for me. But I didn’t sold as I have a longer term view. So whatever happens, investors are the beneficiaries at last.
ARJUN CHANDRASHEKAR August 6, 2012 at 7:44 pm
@Amit Deb Biswas
NOT IN WEST BENGAL BUT IN ORISSA, TAMIL NADU, KARNATAKA KERALA ONLY UNINOR IS SHUTTING OF IT’S SHIT BUSINESS
Sayan Chattopadhyay August 6, 2012 at 7:38 pm
@Raghu
i’m fade up with this stupid operator,it makes my life a misery. For that i don’t want to lodge any more complain. I shall try to consume all my balance within this month and opt for mnp.
ARJUN CHANDRASHEKAR August 6, 2012 at 6:41 pm
@krishna prasad rao G S
GETTING RID OF UNINOR IS A PEACEFUL FOR KARNATAKA PEOPLE. NO NETWORK IN MOST OF THE AREAS WHERE OTHER OPERATORS EXISTS
vikash August 6, 2012 at 6:21 pm
What about videocon?
krishna prasad rao G S August 6, 2012 at 5:06 pm
uninor giving illegal sims in karnataka so uninar banned… thank u governament…
Pike August 6, 2012 at 3:18 pm
Is there any necessary or condition to keep balance above rs. 100 for porting out ? (seems new)
TAMAL August 6, 2012 at 3:07 pm
If capital investment is negligible, then post production cost is obviously very low…..what was the case of UNINOR getting likely free of cost spectrum they are providing cheap tariff……grabbing market share…..having no social obligation , no responsibility , sucking blood of employees & giving profit to Norway……jago Bharat jago…
this companies are likely responsible for our increasing day to day living cost because the deficit of govt. is balanced by several taxes and direct-indirect pricing, sucking blood of middle and lower Indian people…..
Kaushik Roy August 6, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Its still not clear what will happen after 7th September 2012 to affected companies that lost licences. Thats why I keeping main account balance just above Rs 100/- for my !dea number, just in case I have to port out in case of suspension of service to other operators.So far no SMS received from !dea regarding port out from its network.
Hope that Supreme Court again extend the time as they did in 2nd june 2012 case or have to port.
Keshav Jha August 6, 2012 at 12:35 pm
Good. Quantity should be less to improve quality. But I like MTS, MTS should stay in India.
Raghu August 6, 2012 at 10:00 am
@Sayan Chattopadhyay
then otherwise complain once again with PGPORTAL or with TRAI once again or else call to the network team person who solved ur problem and keep me updated
Sayan Chattopadhyay August 6, 2012 at 8:09 am
i can’t port out right now as i have more than rs.100 in my account:(

To Sajjad :
I have also heard about MTS and Aircel merging. But it has not been declared in public media as for now.
Raghu :
If uninor is shutting down, then it is better to change to other operator rather than complaining.

Tushar Gaikwad August 5, 2012 at 9:45 pm
Uninor… Troubled by 2G scam and JV…
Saurabh August 5, 2012 at 9:35 pm
Don’t use such lines so early. The real mess-up is on the cards after announcement of winners. The way rules have been bent in telecom sector will have negative impact. Govt should be ready to face tough times. This scene may look good but its actually not. Supreme court’s decision on cancellations of licenses was one face of the coin. The other one is to come.
rahul August 5, 2012 at 9:35 pm
now the best time to join national telecom comp BSNL….. aftr sometimes only bsnl give cheapest call rates as be4 3 yr he gave ….. coz now all increase call rates… bsnl is govt company, must thinks abt peoples of india and made for india………….
sunny August 5, 2012 at 9:21 pm
PRIVATE OPERATOR sharing 3g network which is illegal and paid less but still 3g video call rate and data charges are higher than BSNL WHY, THINK WHY??? IF once 2g spectrum is alloted then u will see that BSNL WILL BE THE ONLY OPERATOR WHO GIVES SERVICES AT AFFORDABLE RATE.
Soumya August 5, 2012 at 9:11 pm
Uninor try to concentrate on providing a better network coverage in the remaining cirlces otherwise people are going to say Good Bye to you…
somnath August 5, 2012 at 9:10 pm

sunithbabu August 5, 2012 at 8:59 pm
I would see,
Only few Telecom Giants like Airtel, Reliance, BSNL, TataDoCOMO to be in the race.
When 3G Licenses come out – it would be Airtel BSNL and may be TATA
Suraj K R August 5, 2012 at 8:13 pm
@Sanjay Bafna What abt Kolkata & West Bengal circles?
Tharun George August 5, 2012 at 8:02 pm
That’s a very short notice.
What about balance and activated packs?
Banks gives at least 3 months notice before they seize loan property.
Jhupoo August 5, 2012 at 7:58 pm
I stronly believe uninor will not India.
If they do this….
Airtel vodafone and other bigies will start to suck our blood.

Telecomtalk :
Please do mention that MNP rule of 90 days is not followed in this regard as customers with less than 90 active days in Uninor can port out in this special regard.
Asit Paul August 5, 2012 at 6:04 pm
IDEA licence was also cancelled in Assam & North East by Supreme Court 2G Verdict.
Will IDEA continue to offer its Services? I recently ported into IDEA from Aircel.
