Ooredoo Qatar has selected Ericsson to enhance its 5G network capabilities by deploying advanced radio access network (RAN) and microwave backhaul solutions to boost connectivity and performance across the country. According to the companies, this partnership will lay the foundation for the future integration of 5G Advanced features, paving the way for enhanced capabilities.

Key Features of Deployment
Key features of the deployment will include interference reduction, outdoor positioning capabilities, and AI-driven RAN solutions to ensure superior connectivity in challenging environments, Ooredoo Qatar said.
Extending 5G Coverage to Remote Areas
Under the agreement, Ericsson will provide its RAN technology, including Massive MIMO radios and MINI-LINK microwave solutions with carrier aggregation. The deployment will extend 5G coverage to remote areas where fiber is unavailable, using a multiband microwave solution that enables backhaul of up to 25 Gbps by integrating E-band (70/80 GHz) with traditional frequency bands.
Nationwide 5G Layer Deployment
Ooredoo Qatar also said Ericsson will roll out a new 5G layer on the 2.3 GHz spectrum nationwide, expand indoor and outdoor coverage with additional sites annually, and modernise Ooredoo's power systems.
Additionally, the deployment will include 3G spectrum refarming, NR 700 introduction for improved coverage, and mmWave expansions in hotspot locations. AI-driven RAN solutions will further optimise connectivity and customer experience.

Strengthening Network Capabilities
"This technology investment aims to strengthen Ooredoo's network capabilities, enhance 5G consumer experiences, and unlock new enterprise revenue streams such as network sharing and mission-critical engagements," the official release said.
