Samsung has finally launched the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ in India. As expected, the phones are priced aggressively in a typical Samsung fashion. The Samsung Galaxy S8 costs Rs. 57,900 in India, whereas the Galaxy S8+ cost Rs. 64,700 and comes with a bunch of pre-booking offers.
The major highlight of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ is the infinity display. The S8 has a 5.8-inch QHD+ display, whereas the S8+ comes with a 6.2-inch display with the same resolution. Both the phones come with bigger screens, but the overall footprint remains relatively small which means both the phones will be pretty much easy to handle even with a single hand.
In India, though, Samsung launched the phones with Exynos 8895 chip, paired with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 540 GPU. Samsung did not launch the premium 6GB of RAM variant in India as expected. Both the phones come with 64GB of internal storage with support for storage expansion via hybrid microSD card slot.
Samsung has used the same camera setup as the Galaxy S7, but they claim that the software processing in S8 and S8+ has been improved to deliver better images. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ has a 12MP sensor at the back along with an 8MP wide-angle sensor for selfies. Both the phones run Android 7.0 Nougat based TouchWiz UI on top.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 come with a 3,000mAh battery, while the S8+ packs a bigger 3,500mAh battery. Both the phones are differentiated only in terms of battery capacity and screen size. Rest of the specs are same.
Samsung has also added a new Bixby Artificial Intelligence engine in the Galaxy S8 and S8+, which functions same as Google Now by displaying weather related info, your favourite cards, etc. Samsung recently claimed that the phones would ship without Bixby’s intelligent features such as scanning a photo to get relevant info, etc., but said that the core voice commands, weather related information can be accessed.
Coming to the availability of the phone, the Galaxy S8, and S8+ will be up for grabs from May 5, 2017, across all the offline channels and will be sold via Flipkart.
