The name- Micromax has faded away after the entrance of various Chinese brands in India. After a quiet 2016, Micromax is reentering the smartphone market with the Micromax Dual 5, the company's first take on the dual camera space. The homegrown brand has been teasing the phone for quite some time now and finally at an event in New Delhi; they announced the Dual 5.

Micromax-Dual-5

Diving into the specifications of the phone, the Micromax Dual 5 flaunts a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass. The display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology. At the heart of the phone, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC, clubbed with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.

The USP of the Micromax Dual 5 is the dual camera present at the rear side of the phone. Both the sensors are 13MP units. One sensor captures images in monochrome, while the other one capture pictures in RGB mode. This implementation is same as the one seen on Huawei P9. Up front, the Dual 5 features a 13MP sensor. The rear camera is capable of recording videos of 4K quality.

Micromax is touting the Dual 5 as the most secure phone. The company has added a new SOS feature called as 'SafeSwitch' that captures a picture of the person whenever they try to pull out the SIM card. The SafeSwitch key is made of military grade, and it ensures that no one can unlock your phone without the password or even they can't turn off the phone.

The Dual 5 boots Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box, which is underwhelming and is armed with a 3200mAh battery with support for QuickCharge 3.0. The phone has connectivity options such as 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

The Dual 5 specifications are decent enough, but the major letdown is its steep price. Yes, Micromax has upped its ante and priced the device at Rs. 24,999, which we think is largely overpriced. The company is promising one-year replacement warranty and 24-hour service with the new 'Micromax Camera' app. The Dual can be purchased from April 10 via Flipkart.com and Micromax e-store. The phone will be sold via offline channels as well.
