Meta has announced an expansion of its open-source Llama AI models, making them available to US government agencies, including those involved in defense and national security, and private sector partners supporting their work. Under this initiative, Meta has partnered with major companies including Accenture Federal Services, Amazon Web Services, Anduril, Booz Allen, Databricks, Deloitte, IBM, Leidos, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Oracle, Palantir, Scale AI and Snowflake to bring Llama to government agencies.

Real-World Applications
According to Meta, these models are being utilised for practical applications, such as Oracle’s development of aircraft maintenance tools that improve diagnostic speed and accuracy. Scale AI is fine-tuning Llama to assist in national security missions, including operational planning and adversary analysis. Meanwhile, Lockheed Martin has integrated Llama into its AI Factory to accelerate projects in code generation and data analysis.
Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure are also supporting government needs by hosting Llama on their secure cloud solutions for handling sensitive data. Additionally, IBM’s watsonx solution is bringing Llama to national security agencies in their self-managed data centers and clouds, Meta said.

“These kinds of responsible and ethical uses of open source AI models like Llama will not only support the prosperity and security of the United States, they will also help establish US open source standards in the global race for AI leadership,” Meta highlighted.
