Gionee is gearing up to organise a launch event in India on August 22. The media invite has an image with a hashtag - #SelfieWithFlash. The hashtag hints that Gionee is going to unveil a selfie-centric smartphone in India.
The Chinese smartphone maker is expected to launch an S-series smartphone. In India, manufacturers such as Oppo and Coolpad have recently launched selfie-centric smartphones in India, and Gionee seems to be going on the same pathway.
At an event in Beijing last month, Gionee unveiled two new smartphones - the Gionee M6 and M6 Plus. Both the devices come with data encryption chips and large batteries. But the data encryption feature was limited to the Chinese variant and not on the global model. It remains to be seen if Gionee brings the data encryption packed variant to India. The Gionee M6 was launched in 64GB and 128GB storage variants for 2699 yuan (approx. Rs. 27,220/US$ 404) and 2899 yuan (approx. Rs. 29225/US$ 434). Similarly, the M6 Plus also debuted in 64GB and 128GB storage models, priced at 2999 yuan (approx. Rs. 30,230/US$ 449) and 3199 yuan (approx. Rs. 32,249/US$ 479). The M6 will be available in Champagne Gold and Latte Gold colour options while the M6 Plus will be up for sale in just Champagne Gold colour.
The Gionee M6 features a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p AMOLED screen while the M6 Plus comes with a 6-inch full HD 1080p AMOLED screen. Both the smartphones come powered by a 1.8GHz Octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755M) chipset and run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Amigo OS 3.2 skin on top. The Gionee M6 sports a 13-megapixel primary camera with LED flash, and Phase-Detection Autofocus (PDAF), f/2.0 aperture, Sony IMX258 sensor, 5P lens, and 1.12um pixel size. On the other hand, the M6 Plus bears a 16-megapixel primary snapper with dual-tone LED flash and PDAF. Both the device boast an 8-megapixel of front snapper. Interestingly, the M6 Plus lacks a 3.5mm audio jack.
Both the devices promise extended battery output, thanks to the massive battery capacity. The M6 is backed by a 5000mAh battery while the M6 Plus features a 6020mAh of battery. There is USB Type-C charging for both the devices.
