India’s telecom revolution is rewriting the rules, said Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Monday. India has crossed over 400 million 5G users and now stands as the world’s second-largest 5G subscriber base, as well as one of the fastest adopters globally, he said on January 16, 2026.
India’s Telecom Revolution Is Rewriting the Rules
The Union Telecom Minister shared a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) in January 2026, highlighting the achievements of Indian telecom, the world’s cheapest tariffs, and the fastest adoption rates globally.
“With over 400M+ 5G users, India today stands as the world’s second-largest 5G subscriber base and among the fastest adopters globally. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi, India’s 5G story is setting new global benchmarks in scale, speed, and digital transformation,” Scindia shared in a post on X on January 16, 2026.
The media (image) attached to the post highlighted the global 5G subscriber base, with China at the top with 1.1 billion 5G subscribers, followed by India at 400 million, the USA at 350 million, the EU (European Union) at 200 million, and Japan at 190 million.
Cheapest Data Costs Drive Massive Digital Adoption
In another post on January 17, 2026, Scindia shared that India is leading the world in data usage.
“World’s lowest data costs, world’s leading data usage. India’s digital revolution led by PM Narendra Modi ji is truly built for its people.”
The two images attached to the post highlighted the cost of mobile data and monthly mobile data usage.
