Sparkle and TON Launch Green Data Center, Panama Digital Gateway

TIM Group's Sparkle has partnered with Trans Ocean Network (TON), a Panamanian telecommunications company, to launch Panama Digital Gateway (PDG), Panama's first green open landing and connectivity data centre. Infrastructure and Technologies

Sparkle says PDG is a carrier-neutral hub, offering state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure to meet the diverse requirements of customers. Located in Corazal, Panama City, the facility spans over 5,500 square meters and can accommodate up to 650 racks, with scalable power reaching 3.5 MW.

The facility has been built with strict anti-seismic standards and a focus on reliability, performance, and environmental sustainability, incorporating energy-efficient power and cooling systems.

Sparkle's Global Backbone Integration

Being integrated with Sparkle's extensive global backbone, which spans over 600,000 km of fibre across Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia, PDG serves as the landing point for the Curie cable system and other upcoming submarine cables seeking entry to Central America, according to Sparkle. Curie is a cable system connecting California to Chile with a branching unit into Panama developed by Google and Sparkle.

The launch of PDG strengthens Panama's position as a strategic digital hub, facilitating connectivity between North and South America. For instance, Colombia will benefit from a direct and low-latency route to the US West Coast via PDG and the Curie extension.

Enhanced Connectivity for OTT Providers and Carriers

By establishing a presence in PDG, over-the-top (OTT) providers, carriers, financial institutions, and corporations can leverage Sparkle's global connectivity services, including its Tier-1 IP transit service Seabone, capacity solutions, and networking services. Sparkle says the direct access to submarine cables ensures enhanced performance and resilience, enabling real-time digital services.

As a natural crossroad of Central America and a bridge between the Atlantic and the Pacific, Panama aims to become a centre of choice for interconnected players and the reference landing hub for new submarine cables.
