GDS Launches Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus in Johor, Malaysia
Developer and operator of high-performance data centres, GDS announced the launch of its Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center in Johor, Malaysia, last week. According to GDS, the GDS Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus, also known as GDS NTP Data Center Campus, is the first data centre that the company has launched in Southeast Asia.

Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus

According to GDS, The Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus consists of several data centres, and phase 1 of the campus (NTP1, NTP2, and NTP3) covers a net floor area of 22,500 sqm with a total IT power capacity of 69.5 MW. The campus is said to be designed with advanced green features and operated using GDS's innovative Smart DC solution. This solution enables swift delivery within 14 months of NTP1 and ensures high efficiency and low-carbon operations.

Strategic Importance

GDS said it strategically positioned its data centres in key cities within the Sijori region, including Singapore, Johor (Malaysia), and the Riau Islands Province (Indonesia). This positioning allows GDS to play a crucial role in driving the digitalization of the entire region, serving the growing digital demands of the AI-driven era.

"As the first and only data centre player that has identified the Sijori region as a strategic location for data centre deployment, GDS enjoys a significant first-mover advantage and possesses extensive industry know-how," said GDS.

Digital Transformation and Economic Growth

The data centre projects align with Malaysia's New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP2030), which aims to create a digitally vibrant nation.

GDS stated that the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the state government have supported GDS's initiative, as it aligns with Malaysia's drive to become a preferred location for data centre investments.

GDS cited a Cushman and Wakefield report identifying Malaysia as one of the prime data centre markets in Southeast Asia. GDS aims to meet the region's data centre needs and empower its role in the global digital economy.

The development highlights GDS's Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus as a pivotal step in the company's expansion into Southeast Asia and its contribution to the region's digital transformation journey.
