Global Internet Exchanges (IXs) operator DE-CIX has announced plans to establish a joint venture company named PT DE-CIX Indonesia in a move to tap into the Indonesian market. According to the official release, the partnership with PT IDMarco Digital Solusi, a subsidiary of Salim Group, aims to create a distributed Internet Exchange (IX) spanning multiple data centres in Jakarta. This will utilize the DE-CIX Apollon platform, enhancing interconnection services for wholesale and enterprise clients across Southeast Asia.

Seamless Integration with DE-CIX Ecosystem
DE-CIX Jakarta will be seamlessly integrated into the existing DE-CIX ecosystem, covering six metro markets, including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Brunei, and Manila, according to DE-CIX.
With this expansion, DE-CIX aims to support the ongoing transformation of content and traffic localization in the ASEAN region. While Singapore and Hong Kong hubs will remain essential, DE-CIX expects significant growth in markets like Jakarta.
DE-CIX stated, "Our integrated solution will facilitate the localization of content and traffic, making it more efficient for networks in Indonesia. With the arrival of DE-CIX Apollon in Jakarta, all networks in the country are invited to take advantage of DE-CIX's best-in-class platform."
The joint venture will directly connect DE-CIX Jakarta to DE-CIX Singapore, bolstering the Southeast Asian interconnection ecosystem. This will offer interconnection services for network providers, cloud service providers, and enterprises backed by industry-leading Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Advanced Interconnection Services and Cloud Exchange
According to the statement, DE-CIX Jakarta's offerings will include local and regional interconnection, along with Cloud Exchange capabilities, providing Indonesian end-users with an enhanced digital experience and a wide array of cloud interconnection services tailored for enterprises.
DE-CIX stated that the DE-CIX Apollon platform has advanced security features, such as blackholing services, and offers in-depth statistical data to help participants better understand their traffic patterns. Moreover, the platform provides a user-friendly self-service portal and API, enabling easy management and automation of interconnection services.

Indonesia's Digital Market and ICT Growth
Indonesia's Internet penetration has grown by more than 50 percent between 2017 and 2022, with close to 220 million people (78 percent of the population) now having access to the internet, the official release stated.
The country is also home to nearly 1,000 independent networks, with the number nearly doubling in the last five years. In addition, more than 40 international and national sub-sea cables connect to the archipelago, with six more planned for the next two years.
These developments have contributed to the revenues in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, with IT spending projected to reach up to USD 6 billion by 2024, noted the release.
DE-CIX's move to establish a distributed Internet Exchange in Jakarta is expected to propel Indonesia further into the digital era.
