Bharti Airtel Reports 65.4% Drop in Net Profit During Q2

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Thursday reported a 65.4% drop in consolidated net profit at Rs 119 crore for the second quarter ended September 2018. Its net profit stood at Rs 343 crore in the same period of the previous year, according to a company statement. Total revenue came in at Rs 20,422 crore for the September quarter, which was 6.2% lower than Rs 21,777 crore notched in the year-ago period. Its India revenues fell 3.6% year-on-year while the Africa revenues rose 10.8%.

“India revenues for Q2’19 at Rs 14,920 crore have declined by 3.6% year on year (declined 10.9% on a reported basis) on an underlying basis. Mobile revenues have witnessed year on year de-growth of 7.2% on an underlying basis led by continued average revenue per user down-trading impacted by competitive pricing pressures,” the statement said.

Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel, said the average revenue per user (ARPU) decline has “moderated” this quarter driven by a focus on quality customers through simplified pricing and content partnerships.

“We remain focused on driving quality base growth with value adding propositions for our customers. We also remain committed to investing in enhanced capacities and have deployed 27000+ broadband sites during the quarter, enabling a 239% YoY growth in mobile data volumes,” Vittal added.

In yesterday’s IMC 2018 event , Mittal rushed to Ambani and asked for time to meet him and Ambani replied “Tum bolo na kab milna hai. Abhi aa jao… Main Arun ji (unidentified) ko milne ja raha hoon… If you want, I can come wherever you want,” Ambani said and left. A meeting between the two titans of Indian industry could well be on the cards, but whether that will help Mittal in this mega battle of the giants remains to be seen. Also seen yesterday mr. Birla sharing his crib with Ambani . It seems VIL spectrum is cherry… Read more »

jio hav tech for 4.5G 5G n airtel cn deploy 4.5G 5G tech it hav resources n airtel is only serious telco to counter jio.
Vodaidea cant do anything now it will be better idea sell themselves to jio so that jio can get 5CA or 6CA in future. I hav feeling just like voda sold themselves to idea. Idea will sell themselves to jio post 2020. Only Airtel Jio +Bsnl will b there. so this will b much more efficient use of spectrum for 4.5G n 5G ?

That’s expected. My Airtel landline/ broadband was dead for a week and they never bothered to repair it.
Pretty soon they’d close down.

BSNL is far more better than airtel in wired broadband sector.
