I have a iPhone 6 Plus purchased in the US. It supports FDD Band 3 with 1800MHz. I was wondering if it supports the upcoming Airtel 4G service in Hyderabad. As far as I know Airtel does not own 2300MHz band for AP circle that includes Telangana.

thanks in advance.

Yes! They will be rolling out 4G services on FDD Band 3 with 1800 MHz they’ve bought in Feb 2014 auction. Idea is also rumoured to launch 4G by early 2016 in AP circle. With this the count goes to 4 and 3 among them are going to play big.
So AP circle is going to see a sudden change in Telecommunications and both the chief ministers have been chanting the word “4G” ever since they have sworn.

@ SRIVASTAVA – this is great news … that would mean customers dont need to worry about handset compatability – be it 2300 mhz or 2100 mhz – the existing 1800 mhz handsets (with LTE support) can be used.

Are you sure that Airtel doesn’t have 2300 Mhz and is only going to launch 4g on 1800 Mhz in Hyderabad ? I’m looking to buy the Nexus 6 which supports only 1800 Mhz . Would that be okay ?

There is no chance for airtel to launch LTE services on 2300 MHz and as @DUANE said wait till they launch and also expect the price of Nexus 6 to drop down till then. Idea is sure to launch them on 1800 MHz and as far I know airtel has purchased 1800 MHz spectrum in Feb so definitely they will the first operator to launch FDD-LTE services.

@ L N REDDY – suggest you wait till Airtel launches (around mid -Feb ) and then be sure. As of 20 Jan I tested with my LG G2 and airtel LTE signals are available across S D Road, from St John’s Church till their office @ Splendid Towers, Begumpet.
