Huawei has launched some pretty impressive smartphones over the last few years. Taking on the Samsung Galaxy S9 series, Huawei today announced two flagship devices- the Huawei P20 and the Huawei P20 Pro at a special event in Paris. Both the devices feature high-end hardware, notched displays, gorgeous design, stereo speakers and of course, premium pricing. The P20 Pro, in particular, takes the smartphone camera game to a whole new level with its triple Leica branded camera setup to the back. The Huawei P20 Pro and the standard P20 are now the official smartphones with highest DxOMark rating. The P20 Pro scored a whopping 109, whereas the regular P20 settled down with a score of 102. Still, these scores are higher than the competition such as the Galaxy S9, Google Pixel 2 and more. It would be interesting to see how the cameras on the P20 Pro stacks against the Pixel 2.
Huawei P20 Specifications and Pricing
The Huawei P20 is a smaller device between the two flagship smartphones launched today. It sports a 5.8-inch LCD notched display with a resolution of 1080 x 2244 pixels. The fingerprint scanner is placed below the display, meaning the phone has a bigger chin as compared to other devices such as the Galaxy S9. The smartphone is powered by the 2017 Kirin 970 SoC, clubbed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Huawei also took advantage of the Neural Processing Unit by including several AI features.
Talking about the cameras, the Huawei P20 sports a dual camera setup to the back. A 12MP RGB sensor is paired with a 20MP monochrome sensor, and the primary sensor comes with f/1.6 aperture, OIS and 1.55µm pixels. Huawei has added features such as four-way autofocus with the help of PDAF, Laser, Contrast and Depth direction. The P20 can also record 960fps slow-motion videos at 720p resolution. The front-facing notch houses a 20MP camera which also comes with a Bokeh mode and Face Unlock.
The Huawei P20 is backed by a 3400mAh battery with the company's Super Charge fast charging technology. The device will be available in Black, Midnight Blue, Pink Gold and Champagne Gold colour options. Huawei has announced a global price of €680 for the P20, which converts to Rs 54,700.
Huawei P20 Pro Specifications and Pricing
Moving onto the highlight of the launch event, the P20 Pro with its design, triple camera setup is set to give the Galaxy S9+ a run for its money. The P20 Pro flaunts a slightly larger 6.1-inch display, but it's an OLED panel with the same 1080 x 2244 resolution. Huawei also placed the fingerprint to the front the phone below the display, and it features the same processor as the standard P20. However, Huawei has upped the RAM to 6GB and storage to 128GB on the P20 Pro.
The USP of the smartphone, however, is the triple rear camera setup. Like it rumoured earlier, the P20 Pro uses a 40MP RGB sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, coupled to an 8MP telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom. There's a 20MP monochrome sensor separated from the other two sensors with f/1.6 aperture. It has all the camera features mentioned above- four-way autofocus, dual LED flash which takes help from the integrated colour temperature sensor. This camera is capable of shooting photos with ISO set to a whopping 102,400. The front-facing camera remains the same at 24MP with a Face Unlock feature.
This phone is backed by a 4000mAh battery. The Huawei P20 comes with the IP54 rating, whereas the P20 Pro comes with IP67 water and dust certification. Both the phones boot Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI out of the box.
The Huawei P20 Pro will retail at a global price of €900, that converts to Rs 72,300. The P20 Pro also comes in Graphite Black, Midnight Blue and Pink Gold colour options, but there's a special Twilight colour variant, which is stealing the show on the web.
Huawei also unveiled a premium edition Huawei P20 Pro dubbed as Huawei Mate RS which will retail for a whopping $2600, but it offers 512GB of internal storage and premium design than the standard P20 and P20 Pro smartphones.
