Following the league set up by other manufacturers, OnePlus has also joined the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The company has collaborated with Foxconn, which will be manufacturing the devices in its Rising Stars factory located in the Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.

It is not the first time that a manufacturer is going to start manufacturing in India, many other big daddies of the tech world such as Motorola, Sony, HTC, Asus, and  Xiaomi have also joined the movement. OnePlus has not revealed yet that which smartphone it will be manufacturing in India, but rumors state that it might start with the OnePlus 2.

OnePlus 2 - EarpiecePete Lau, Founder & CEO, OnePlus said, “Producing smartphones in India is one of the most important decisions that we have made so far at OnePlus, and we are thankful to the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Foxconn for helping us make this happen. India being one of our biggest markets worldwide, we are committed to a long-term sustainable growth path."

After Xiaomi, OnePlus is the second Shenzhen-Based company that is going to start manufacturing in India. Talking about the production Vikas Agarwal, India general manager, OnePlus said, “Local production will not only make our operations more efficient in terms of cost and working capital requirements but also help us in making our products available for sale much faster than ever before. Local production will help to address this issue and better cater to the fast growing demands for OnePlus products in India.”

The Foxconn facility at Sri City is spread across 30,000 sq ft and has the maximum capacity of manufacturing up to 500,000 units a month. The production capacity seems good enough to meet the demand and supply of OnePlus devices in India.
