  • Mahesh Poojary S October 19, 2013 7:07 am, 7:07 AM

I purchased 139 Rs. 1GB plan (2G/3G). I called customer care they said all are 3G now. Speed is awesome. Initially I did not get 3G speed, but got 2G speed. After making following settings will get real 3G speed. Really awesome. I purchased package from online and got 1.1GB. Do the following settings:
    1. Before loading 3G package make sure that 3G is converted. I heard that now by default all accounts are 3G.
Send M3G to 53733. for confirmation need to send M3GY to 53733 again.
    2. Load any 3G package.
    3. Keep your SIM in 3G supported SIM slot. If it is dual sim, all SIM slots are not supported 3G. This is also one of the mistake I did before.
    4. Enable WCDMA. If you enable GSM then you will not get 3G speed, will get 2G speed. This is the mistake I did before.
Settings ==> Wireless and Networks ==> More settings ==> Network mode ==> WCDMA only. For datacard also need to do this now. Way of settings depending on mobile.
    5. Register your mobile to CellOne only (no need, but better).
Settings ==> Wireless and Networks ==> More settings ==> Network operators ==> select “CellOne” for BSNL.
    6. Now you should get 3G speed if your local network is supported 3G.

Why I purchased BSNL SIM, because they do not cheat on data usage. But other private service providers normally cheat in data usage, at the end of the month they jumps nearly 30% data. I had bad experience in Airtel, I do not know why it is happening.

please tell me after porting process

    • Simon September 17, 2013 8:33 pm, 8:33 PM

its not right place for discussion regarding Porting though sharing

      1. After successful data entry by BSNL CSC/FRANCHISEE .. T/V Took place by BSNL it self then its goes to MCH (Porting gatway ) and takes 4 days from date of T/V ( Working Days ) to complete the the process ( including receiving confirmation by doner ).

      2. on poring confirmation sms will received in alternative no .
then just recharge with any rationalized FRC (first Recharge Coupon ) or any special FRC dedicated by such Circle .

      3. Enjoy with service ..

  • raman kumar September 2, 2013 5:20 pm, 5:20 PM

bsnl is giving just 200-300 kbps speed. i checked many times with android app speed is not more than 300kbps and they call it 3g.

  • Raghunandan September 2, 2013 5:05 pm, 5:05 PM

These plans useless there is not effect of 3G speed only the price of the plans are hiked.. the plans which are introduced by BSNL are not customer friendly.

its better for people like me who used to use 3g packs at higher costs and could not bear the slow speed of 2g. So its now better at a reasonable middle level cots. But i would like bsnlto improve thier network as it breaks down often. Thanks bsnl.

  • DineshPrasad Gupta August 29, 2013 11:03 am, 11:03 AM

UNINOR , i think — is the cheapest. 89/- for 3gb validity 30 days. BSNL does not know to do the business. bsnl having the sarkaari attitude. will not improve and cannot improve. my b/band 06562-231031, 230529 are dead since 06 dec 2012 but bsnl will do nothing. bsnl has gone beyond repair.

  • saqlain August 29, 2013 7:35 am, 7:35 AM

there is no speed effect by this new plain. same speed as 2g plain

  • scc August 28, 2013 9:05 am, 9:05 AM

bsnl is nothing good for 3g and 2g services but other operator Vodafone , idea is batter I am use Vodafone 3G.

    • Simon August 28, 2013 4:14 pm, 4:14 PM

No doubt BSNL initiated a drastic step towards data connectivity among all other what makes different? as on date no other Service provider dare to provide such data with in such price and with no speed restriction feature .if anyone wish better service with compromising price then go AIRTEL/Vodafone etc and for other BSNL is best . Nothing is cheap, good services always come with big price tag
      For low users
      17 100 MB 3 DAYS
      39 240 MB 7DAYS
      78 500 MB 15DAYS
      98 700 MB 21DAYS

shall vary from circle to circle at Rs.3 (+/-),
      • Reaming data Carry forward feasibility.
      • Without speed restriction
      • Low Data consuming rate (Now has been revised as equals to other )

      • Poor Service delivery (CC)
      • No suitable solution within time.

  • mohan kashyap August 26, 2013 11:56 pm, 11:56 PM

i think bsnl is increasing 2g plan by beyond the limit, the 2g data plan of 251 should be 2gb night+ 2gb day and 561 plan should be 8gb. for 1011 it should be 15 gb of data. bsnl launches bad plans for 2g users. i think

  • Anandhu August 22, 2013 10:36 pm, 10:36 PM

These 3G plans, still are gross. It would’ve been great if BSNL introduced unlimited 3g data plans with reduced speeds after the bundled usage, just like BSNL Wi-Max plans. That is probably gonna meet the FUP.

    • mike August 22, 2013 10:42 pm, 10:42 PM

      just imagine,
with no previous notifications & you have 2.5 Gb left from your last recharge.
Then comes 15th august, and it all vanishes. I didn’t even knew BSNL had such foolish plan. I don’t need speed, give me meager 150 kbps as it was already giving but don’t take away data from the users , and what happened to 3 months 301/- plan??? BSNL is going to die for the second time.

      • babu September 3, 2013 7:02 pm, 7:02 PM

      • Bipin Das September 4, 2013 1:58 pm, 1:58 PM

I have enabled 2G 219 data plan of 8Gb on 7 Aug and was getting 30Kb/s throttled speed on wcdma mode. After 16 aug i found that my network speed is boosted to around 200 Kb/s (remember it’s Kilo byte, i talking about) and by the time i was left with around 3Gb of data in my plan. And I’m still enjoying it guys. But i wasn’t aware of the fact that i was actually getting the full 3g speed in a 2g data plan, until i read this article . Because I had experiences with idea 3g and that was able to give me around 450 Kb/s speed as compared to bsnl 3g, though idea plans are much costlier than bsnl. Horrible fact is that, those with bsnl 2g network and 2g phones will have hard time with these unified data plans.

  • mike August 22, 2013 8:52 pm, 8:52 PM

this is very very tragic.. bsnl increased the speed to some 300kbs only but decreased data quantity. :(

shame to bsnl. shame to trai. shame to govt of India under rule of congress, you are degrading the rupee yourself.

  • umesh August 21, 2013 11:07 pm, 11:07 PM

BSNL is getting its data packs at higher price like others than why choose Bsnl which don’t give the total speed as they mentioned. its too irritating and all the customer care person don’t gets the consumers opinion and neglects them.

    • Anish August 22, 2013 8:59 pm, 8:59 PM

I used to use 2G data recharge of 219 (4GB Day+4GB Night) but after changing to unified rate, I will have to pay 1011 to get 10 GB, which is nearly 5 times increase. I have gone mad at this, as I need nearly 8GB data per month and speed doesn’t matter for me. So the Unified packs are good for 3G users but not 2G users. I am now thinking to switch to any other 2G operator.

If u r using android then change the settings under “wireless networks” …uncheck the option saying “use 2g networks” then u can have 3g speeds…

    • sunny August 21, 2013 9:20 am, 9:20 AM

u r ryt. bsnl only served people of India but pvt operators are very well serving people of India. y people here always says bsnl is serving the nation? what others are doing??? aren’t they also serving the nation or you think they are sending signals from/to foreign countries. don’t u know how badly people are served by bsnl. my landline is not working from 3 days. complained and visited bsnl csc thrice but no one comes to eject the fault. look, how well bsnl is serving the nation. pvt companies are good at taking and resolving issues while illiterate customer care of bsnl don’t have basic knowledge. plans like pvt ops but no way near to them in quality.u bsnl. i’m going to surrender my LL connection.

I am not able to recharge my BSNL number with any data pack after 15th August (Kolkata Circle).
In BSNL portal under Data Recharge, it is not showing any data recharge options available.
If I try to use BSNL SelfCare by sending SMS; HELP DATA2 to 53733, it is showing “This service is not available for you”.
It seems like Kolkata circle BSNL are yet not ready for this change and have disabled all data recharge options.

      • mangal hazra August 16, 2013 8:18 pm, 8:18 PM

if network selection required wcdma Or UMTS

would suggest not to use bsnllive , by default apn saved bsnllive itself
lot of push msg /advertisement normally promote via this apn if not access carefully

  • Nitesh Kunnath August 12, 2013 11:13 pm, 11:13 PM

Hope all other operators too follow the same :)

    • Saurabh August 13, 2013 3:19 pm, 3:19 PM

I hope they won’t. It will badly affect 2G users. We need different packs for different service not unified packs. BSNL step would have benefited people if they had a good 3G coverage but in most of the states except some Southern ones, their 3G network is not present at all. So their step is increasing 2G prices indirectly that will hit their revenues as at same cost private operators has their plans and quality is much better than BSNL. Also through best offers, pvt operators are giving data at cheap rates.

    — insider info:

BLAME THE private operators for lobbying for this DELAY.
just recollect the tariff antics played out by private operators over the last 10 months !!
even now BSNL seem to be listening to their private bosses by eliminating 2g altogether.
    — insider info

    • Anbarasu August 12, 2013 4:20 pm, 4:20 PM

It is the BSNL has to be blamed for worst services not the private lobby. They keep changing the plans and disconnecting the services without any intimation. I recently recharged for 2G data plan (302 Rs) for 90 days, I was given 8GB of data, after a month they have reduced the usage value to 6GB instead of 8 GB. When my data level comes to 6GB, they disconnected. The previous day before disconnection, I have 2.5 GB data left. I recently migrated to 3G by sending SMS, I got confirmation of migration to 3G. I recharged for 3G data plan of 599 (3000+4000 MB) for 30 days. 10 days passed since migration, I still gets 2G signal and 2G speed (1-5 kbps) most of the time. No use in calling customer care, visiting CSC or writing to Appellate authority. Is private lobby responsible for this shady service?

      • Raghavendra August 12, 2013 6:07 pm, 6:07 PM

        Hi Anbarasu
By default every customer on BSNL Network have access to 3G n/w.U can even make video calls with 2G sim with 2G plan. If u use data without any data pack u get 3G speed. But when u recharge 2G data pack, ur speed will be capped
Even when u recharge 2G pack and set ur handset n/w settings to 3G/HSPA u’ll get speeds around 256Kbps, which is greater than normal 2G speed

First check whether ur handset settings are changed to 3G /HSPA n/w.
And still if there is no 3G signal, make sure u r in 3G serviceable area of BSNL

        • Anbarasu August 12, 2013 10:11 pm, 10:11 PM

          Hi Raghavendra,

My handset supports 3G (Nokia C5-00). I have migrated to 3G from 2G. I got the SMS confirming the migration, but I am not getting 3G signal/symbol. I recharged 3G data plan for 599 as well, but the speed is less than 20 kbps. If I check my balance by dialing *123#, it shows my plan as “3G_REV_GENERAL_KTK”. If I call customer care they say I am already in 3G and I was provided 3G speed as well, while registering the complaint in BSNL portal they mention my plan category as “2G_ExlPower_KTK”. How can we trust them that I have been given 3G access? I have sent an email to CGM BSNL Bangalore 5 days back, the complaint has been forwarded by his/her secretary to concerned departments. I might get service, once the departments wake up.

If they are making rates uniform by hiking 2G while reducing 3G rates then they must provide higher speed for 2G customers and must not throttle data speed.

    • mangal hazra August 10, 2013 8:02 pm, 8:02 PM

Seems to be work fine unless any special restriction made by Circle .

please note 2G data not converted to 3G

a separate parameter in network services to be added in case of 3G (PDPC 3) & default PDPC 2 for 2g services .

presently such parameter only assign to whom those using any 3G pack like 120 yuva
      152 , 251 ,450 599 yuva etc.

thought of recharging my bsnl maharashtra sim with 302 gprs pack 6gb for 90 days. now i am confused should i recharge or not ! wat will happen if i recharge (any changes in data mb /validity )

  • mangal hazra August 10, 2013 1:53 pm, 1:53 PM

No doubt BSNL is best among all S.P on base of 3C (Cost clarity & coverage) especially DATA services offered by but it takes long to revise their Tariff comprising other ongoing offer by different provider. Additionally lack of proper advertisement and non cooperation from CC and field units it’s failed to achieve their Goal.
As reported Now BSNL take initiative to developed current infrastructure along with network expansion, hopes it give satisfactory result in coming days.Presently all Customer being provided 3G parameter on activation .

    Best of Luck !

  • Kingston August 10, 2013 1:49 pm, 1:49 PM

Those who r in rural areas having 2G coverage only will suffer a lot with this uniform charges. Aircel first introduced this kind of uniform charges.

  • Sudharsn August 10, 2013 1:30 pm, 1:30 PM

airtel, Vodafone, Idea, aircel are the players with heavy tariff on 3G for the same service people will start moving to BSNL and Reliance Communication very soon.

  • rajveer August 10, 2013 10:58 am, 10:58 AM

They will give 3g speed to 2g customers also ?
did i read it wrong way or it is correct
    i was using 98 1 gb plan n getting 2mbps speed
then recharged 6 gb n ow only getting 2g speed of 128 kbps max i think
will get 3g speed again after 15 aug ?
    plz anyone clear my confusion

    • Subhadeep Kanungo August 10, 2013 11:14 am, 11:14 AM

If you recharge your 2G sim with any packs other than 98 or recharge with 3G packs your speed will get reduced. I have also faced the same problem before.

      • Ajesh August 10, 2013 1:00 pm, 1:00 PM

98 is a 2G pack whenever u will recharge with 98 ur APN seetings will be converted to 2G for 1 month(as bsnl has set 3G APN as default setting), it may take somedays and after that ur speed will be reduced.for getting 3G speed u need to recharge with 3G pack.

But now with new STVs 2G and 3G has same pack i.e.125(98 2G data pack wiil be withdrawn from 15th aug) so all u will pay for data not for speed if u have 3G device u can njoy 3G speed otherwise 2G speed.

    • js August 10, 2013 12:40 pm, 12:40 PM

Yes, from 15-Aug all the 2g customers will be changed to 3G. Wherever 3G signal is available you will get 3G speeds. Good move by BSNL and no confusion with too many data vouchers. I am very happy with BSNL 3G and I always get more than 2Mbps even in peak hrs and in my location 3G signal is always full.

      • Ajesh August 10, 2013 2:30 pm, 2:30 PM

@Subhadeep Speed has no any relation with 2G sim/3G Sim. Just understand the logic that 3G is a facility which can be activated at any SIM

        • mangal hazra August 10, 2013 7:49 pm, 7:49 PM

Its normally told that 2G SIM (32K) having 3G parameter can enjoy 3G speed if under 3g coverage but technically 3g consist of 128 K so speed naturally differ .

          • shobha September 15, 2013 11:18 pm, 11:18 PM

128 k for sim mem0ry only but it will work in 3g

    • Anbarasu August 12, 2013 5:11 pm, 5:11 PM

Bsnl should focus on its network quality and bring unlimited plans in postpaid aswell as prepaid

  • Nikhil August 9, 2013 10:40 pm, 10:40 PM

BSNL should launch unlimited data plan in 3G. In prepaid and postpaid if BSNL provide 5GB unlimited (512 kbps after 5GB) @ Rs. 550 or less will work to gain more customer for BSNL. Only attractive data tarrif will drive 3G/4G market in future. BSNL have the strength to provide some outstanding tarrif for its 3G customers but it all depend on Government policy and our telecom minister.

    • Peter August 10, 2013 1:44 pm, 1:44 PM

I don’t think it would be feasible for BSNL to provide 3G services at that rate. They are providing 1Mbps upto 6 Gb and 512 kbps thereafter @ Rs. 800 on wired BB connections, then how can they provide 3G @ Rs. 550?? I guess the closest we can expect is Rs. 850 (postpaid, 950/1000 for prepaid) that too with FUP speed of 256 kbps post 5/6 Gb.

I don’t think, Pan India 3G operator – BSNL’s move will not impact quickly to AVOID group.

Because BSNL doesn’t have much publicity and visibility of its plans, offers, facilities like Avoid group, in this current BSNL’s financial position, BSNL won’t give ad about this new data tariff change from Aug 15.

Here in most of the Indian mobile customers are like ‘goats’. they are not smart and intelligent.

If BSNL gives unlimited 3G data at Rs.50/- they won’t believe and they won’t come to BSNL 3G.

Wherever they go, they need more and more colour full masala ads, jungles, fake ads, misleading ads, fake things, unknown debits without user’s permission.

    Then only they will accept.

If same changes is done by any avoid group means ads, visibility and impact is huge in everywhere!

Here changes are done by our nation’s owned and handicapped BSNL.

There is no problem for money spinning – private operators, especially AVOID group.

Just wait and watch, when AVOID group will follow BSNL data move!

    • kris sridhar August 9, 2013 10:57 pm, 10:57 PM

Goats?????. If below level service ,no customer support, no signals even under tower, reckless employees who make their own company sick by not working , is the criteria for following bsnl then yes people who subscribe to bsnl even after above things are definately goats or even worsr.Man look at the comnents regarding bsnl in teletalk. You will regret joiningbsnl. Bsnl is in loss becoz of its own employees. If they really work then only things will improve. But i doubt that.

      • JS August 10, 2013 12:50 pm, 12:50 PM

Don’t comment in any generic way without knowing the facts..Are you selling any AVOID products. BSNL is the only operator which has good coverage especially in south india and good tariff plans. I don’t know why you want to call customer care when you are not facing any problems in the service. I am using BSNL for the past 11 years and I have used Airtel, Aircel and Idea. But i felt BSNL is the best compared to any service in karnataka, kerala and tamil nadu. I use BSNL for my personal and official purpose and I use it for making alot of calls per day and the billing is very transparent and very cheap

  • tagore August 9, 2013 4:50 pm, 4:50 PM

Complete nonsense. BSNL 3G signal does not simply exist even in Hyderabad. I recharged with a three-day 3G RC but could not catch 3G (H) signal for all the three days. It is disgusting…! Shame on BSNL. At least you can reduce call rates to serve people, but you are pathetic on that front too. Your are more eager than private operators in increasing local call tariff but lags behind all of them, only equal to Unionr, in providing quality service.

airtel has hiked prepaid call tariffs in Delhi by 30p per minute. the new rates w.e.f next month sept 8. booster pack rates will also go up. good decision, atleast with money in hand, they will be able to expand 3g network. airtel gonna launch 4g in delhi also next month and also slashed 4g dongle rates to rs.1500 under offer in their 4g areas. ab aayega maja. reliance jio will not be able to take benefit as delhi n mumbai will taste airtel 4g first. lol Mukesh bhai tu petrol hi bech, 4g launch tere bass ka ni hai.

  • Suresh Kumar R August 9, 2013 3:11 pm, 3:11 PM

  • Tharun George August 9, 2013 2:30 pm, 2:30 PM

Greatest thing BSNL done in 10 years. Now AVoId will be forced to reduce their 3G price.

BSNL actually hike 2G data packs and reduced 3G data pack to make price uniform. Great loss to 2G subscribers who enjoyed 1.25GB at Rs 98. Looks like BSNL 3G network going to get more congested.

Now BSNL have the highest 2G data rates and lowest 3G data rates.

    • Arun Chandran August 9, 2013 2:54 pm, 2:54 PM

I am totally agree with you.AVOID will reduce their 3g rates soon.Bsnl is really a headache for AVOID in Kerala, Tamilnadu circles. In kerala Idea have strong 3g coverage. Then bsnl.
If bsnl reduce their 3g rates it will badley affect idea in kerala. So they will force to reduce the 3g rates.

  • sunny August 9, 2013 2:08 pm, 2:08 PM

what a joke? Where is bsnl 3g? forget about 3g, 90% the towers in our circle are only gprs, no edge. tried it once in 3g area, speed was 320-360kbps in 3g plan of 300MB for rs.89. i get the same with voda 2g. do bakwaas companies which don’t have 3g coverage, slashed their charges. waiting for idea to come with a cheap plan. I can pay them 150-175 for 1GB. what a coverage seems to be everywhere, net connects in just 2 seconds.

    • S.Sudhakar August 9, 2013 2:55 pm, 2:55 PM

      Well said.

Like Japan, all operators in India must be based on 3G (2100 MHz) only. The government must put a new rule. Then only we may get 100% 3G coverage in all areas (like 2G).

  • dev August 9, 2013 1:56 pm, 1:56 PM

recently i port into reliance network after announcing the reduce 3g data packs,as of now i can say reliance has a much more stable 3g network than aircel, vodafone & bsnl in kolkata circle.
As i belive due to less number of users compare to bsnl & vodafone voice network is also very good.

My bsnl data plan expired 8th Aug. i knew about bsnl’s special attachment to republic day and independence day. Most of their price reduction are announced or effective these days. And today 15th aug i googled for bsnl offers and i found it.

  • Sunit August 9, 2013 1:38 pm, 1:38 PM

    3. For Prepaid 2G Data customers, who have recharged 2G Data STVs till
14.08.2013, the customer profile is to be converted to default profile of 3G with no speed restriction from 15.08.2013.

So if we do a 2G data pack before 14th of Aug would the remaining data of 2G be automatically converted to 3G (i.e if I do a 1gb pack of 2G now, from 15th of August would i able to use that 1Gb at 3G speed for 1 month ) Please clarify it

Good to see you being curious and there is nothing wrong to ask questions. As far as your question goes that whether you’ll be able to use the 3G data on 2G phone or not, the answer is Yes. You can use your 3G data on a 2G but it will give 2G speed only. If you want to get 3G speed from a 3G data pack, you need a handset with 3G support.

Just like you can’t use Internet on a black and white or a simple multimedia handset without 2G support, you can’t use 3G or get 3G speed until unless you’ve a handset or dongle(USB Modem) with 3G support. It’s a hardware requirement and just having a pack won’t help. :)

Actually thats a very good question 3g plan on 2g handset.

Normally, a 2g plan gives abt 30-40kbps speed.
            but a 2g handset supports upto 144 or i guess 256kbps speed.

So u might not get the best 3g speed of 3mbps, but you shoud see a improvement with 3g plan.
i.e. the max supported speed of ur 2g handset.

Few ppl in discussion blogs, just cant think logical and end up making fun of them with their fused sarcastic comments.
