Earlier today, Xiaomi has officially confirmed that it will be launching the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in China on December 7. Right after the official confirmation, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 received TENAA certification, which is a must-need certification for every smartphone launching in China.

To recall, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus cleared TENAA certification more than a month ago. The Redmi 5 will be available in two models- MDT1 and MDE1. And the certification suggests that Xiaomi will launch the smartphone in four different memory configurations. Also, the specifications revealed by TENAA listing are in-line with yesterday's specifications leak from China Telecom.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will come with a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The display will have an 18:9 aspect ratio, unlike the 16:9 aspect ratio seen on the earlier Redmi smartphones. The display will be one of the key highlights of the Redmi 5.

Other than that, the Redmi 5 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, as opposed to the Snapdragon 625 SoC suggested by the recent leaks. We're saying this because the clock speed of the processor is 1.8GHz, which is of the Snapdragon 450. The Snapdragon 625 SoC has a clock speed of 2.0GHz, while the Snapdragon 626 SoC' clocked speed is 2.2GHz.

As stated earlier, the Redmi 5 will arrive in several memory configurations. A 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage model, a 3GB of RAM and 32GB model, a 4GB of RAM and 32GB storage model, and lastly, a premium 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage variant. The price of the base model is expected to be Yuan 899 (approx. Rs 8,800). That will be the only difference between the storage models.

The Redmi 5 will rock a 12MP rear camera, along with a 5MP front-facing camera. Xiaomi confirmed the presence of Soft-LED flashlight on the smartphone. The device will run Android 7.1.2 Nougat based MIUI 9 out of the box.

Also, at the back, we get a fingerprint scanner and the phone is said to pack a 3200mAh battery inside, which is underwhelming considering the fact that the Redmi 4 lineup had a 4100mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus received TENAA certification more than a month ago. The Redmi 5 Plus will come with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone will be powered by a 2.0GHz octa-core SoC, which could be the Snapdragon 625 chipset. The device was certified with MEE7 and MET7 model numbers.

Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi 5 Plus in a 3GB/32GB configuration and 4GB/64GB RAM configurations. This device will also sport a single 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. The Redmi 5 Plus might have a bigger 3790mAh battery.

As per Xiaomi's official teaser, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will come in various colours- gold, blue, pink, green, and matte black (as per TENAA certification).
