Xiaomi has released the Mi A1 Android 8.1 Oreo update to the users, after keeping them waited for more than four months. The Mi A1 Android 8.1 Oreo update weighs 1157MB and also includes June 2018 security patch fixes. It's currently rolling out to the users globally and several users on Reddit already posted about the OTA update arrival on their Mi A1. The update adds all the features introduced by Google with the Android 8.1 Oreo, but sadly, Treble support is not included by Xiaomi. If you haven't received the update yet, wait for a couple of days as the rollout is an incremented one and might take some time to reach your handset.
Furthermore, users on Reddit are also commenting that they lost entire text messages on their smartphone after updating to Android 8.1 Oreo. Do make a note that the users who lost the text messages are using the stock SMS application and the third-party SMS app users are not facing this issue. So make sure to take a back up of your SMSs before hitting the update button.
Other features added by the update are Bluetooth battery percentage, dark notification panel while using a dark wallpaper and it seems like Xiaomi hasn't done any modifications this time around. But sadly, Xiaomi did not Treble support to the Mi A1. Earlier, it was rumoured that the 8.1 update would make the Mi A1 Project Treble compatible, but that didn't happen for some unknown reasons.
This is the second major update for the Xiaomi Mi A1, after the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Xiaomi also promised that the Mi A1 would be amongst the first few smartphones to receive Android P update, but it seems like the promise is a long-gone one. The update is rolling out right now to the users and if you have received it, lets us know about the experience by commenting below.
