Indian telecom industry is still witnessing an exponential growth in terms of increasing subscriber’s base and the total volume of the Business. The total number of wireless Subscribers increased from 910.16 million to 914.92 million in the time frame of May 2014 to June 2014 translating into a monthly growth of .52%.

The private operators account for 89.95% of the Wireless subscriber market share while the BSNL and MTNL account together account for a mere 10.2% market share. The pie chart below depicts the individual market share of Telecom operators.

This revelation sheds light on the declining Market share of the PSUs. It is high times government should think of revamp the Organizational structure of BSNL and MTNL instead of bailing it out every time with tax payers money. Another fact that can be deduced is that Vodafone is closing in the gap between Airtel with respect to the market shares.
