We have been hearing about it for quite some time now. Even the CES 2016 oozed Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch’s upcoming compatibility with iOS. Samsung announced at the CES 2016 that the compatibility is still under development, but it sure will arrive “sometime in 2016”.
Thankfully, Samsung UK head—Kyle Brown—has hinted that the Gear S2’s iOS compatibility might become a reality by mid-January. That sure is a good news for those iOS users who want to own a smartwatch but are not ready to shell out extra money for the Apple Watch. The Gear S2 smartwatch is more affordable than Apple’s wearable. Isn’t it funny that Samsung is going to accommodate the OS of its arch rival. We hope that this step taken by Samsung goes on benefitting iOS users who want to use Samsung’s smartwatches with their Apple device. Best of both worlds, it seems.
However, not all glitter is gold, we suspect that iOS users might not be able to take advantage of all the Gear S2 features. Samsung Pay is dubbed to arrive on the Gear S2 sometime later this year, and iOS users might not get access to it. They do have Apple Pay for all that, sigh.
To conclude, Gear S2’s forthcoming iOS compatibility will definitely turn tables against Apple. It will give iOS users a chance to choose a cool wearable outside Apple’s territory. Definitely a good addition to the list of wearables that are supported by Apple’s ecosystem. Things might not remain sunny for Apple Watch after the arrival of Gear S2’s compatibility, but these are just speculations.
