Xiaomi recently announced the Redmi Note 5A smartphone in its homeland China. Now, Xiaomi is preparing to launch the Redmi Note 5 smartphone, which would be a successor to last year's popular Redmi Note 4. There were some rumours about the Redmi Note 5 earlier, but a recent Weibo post revealed complete specifications of the smartphone, along with its pricing.
In China, the Redmi Note 4 was launched a year back, but in India, it was launched only in January 2017. So, don't expect Xiaomi to bring the device to India this year. Also, the Weibo post revealed the specs of Chinese Redmi Note 5, which houses a MediaTek chip. In India, Xiaomi is allowed to release smartphones with Qualcomm chipsets under the hood.
The Weibo post suggests that the Redmi Note 5 will be a major upgrade over the Redmi Note 4. As per the post, the Redmi Note 5 will flaunt a 5.5-inch Full HD display, same as earlier Redmi Note devices. The smartphone will be powered by the MediaTek Helio P25 SoC, built on 16nm manufacturing process. This is interesting because the company has used MediaTek Helio X20 to power the Redmi Note 4, but the Redmi Note 5 is rumoured to use a mid-range Helio P25 SoC.
The Note 5 is said to come in two variants- one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and the other one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
The major highlight of this leak is the dual camera setup on the Redmi Note 5 smartphone. The leak says that Xiaomi will use two sensors of 12MP and 5MP at the back of the Redmi Note 5, but it did not reveal the implementation though. That said, Xiaomi will add a 12MP front-facing camera on the phone as per the leak.
Additionally, the Redmi Note 5 is said to come with a beefy 4000mAh battery and MIUI 9 on top. Also, Xiaomi is likely to use a USB Type-C port on the Redmi Note 5, which would be a welcome move.
Lastly, the pricing of the Redmi Note 5's base variant could be 999 Yuan (approx. Rs. 9,772), while the 4GB/64GB variant is said to be priced over 1299 Yuan. Interestingly, Xiaomi is selling the Mi 5X with much better specs in China for 1299 Yuan. It would be interesting to see how Chinese consumers will look the Redmi Note 5. The launch date of the smartphone is still unknown.
