Open Fiber, Italy's fibre optic operator, has successfully completed the deployment of an ultra-fast internet network in the town of Sutera, located in the province of Caltanissetta, Sicily, according to the official release. The implementation of the fibre infrastructure marks a significant milestone in the digital transformation of the region.

Broadband Ultra Wideband Plan (Piano BUL)
The project carried out under the Broadband Ultra Wideband Plan (Piano BUL) managed by Infratel Italia, aims to provide high-speed connectivity to underserved areas. Open Fiber said it has utilized a combination of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technologies to ensure comprehensive coverage throughout the municipality.
Coverage and Technologies Used
The ultra-fast network in Sutera now reaches a total of 1,912 properties, including public facilities such as the "Sen. Giuseppe Mormino" nursery, the school canteen, the Carabinieri barracks, the Employment Center, the Town Hall, the Municipal Police headquarters, the Forest Rangers detachment, the municipal swimming pool, and the local health centre.

Funding and Sustainable Infrastructure
According to Open Fiber, the investment in this digital infrastructure has been made possible through funding from regional and national sources, coordinated by the Sicilian Regional Government and managed by Infratel Italia. Notably, Open Fiber employed innovative and sustainable excavation techniques, minimizing disruption and using existing infrastructure whenever possible.
