The OnePlus 6 is currently receiving a new Open Beta update which brings features such as Nightscape and Studio Lighting from the OnePlus 6T. At the launch event in India yesterday, OnePlus stated that the OnePlus 6 would receive the new camera features of OnePlus 6T starting today. But it seems like the company is referring to OxygenOS Open Beta update, not the stable update which will be received by every OnePlus 6 user. Notably, the OxygenOS Open Beta 6 update will be available as OTA only for the users who're currently using the Open Beta 5 on OnePlus 6. Furthermore, the Open Beta 6 update adds new navigation gestures, improved UI for About Phone, November 2018 security patches and better screenshot experience.
OxygenOS Open Beta 6 for OnePlus 6: What's New?
On its community forum, the Chinese handset maker posted the complete changelog of the Open Beta 6 update. Firstly, the Open Beta 6 update brings new navigation gestures which OnePlus is calling 'Navigation Gestures 2.0'. These gestures were introduced with the OnePlus 6T on October 29 in New York. Furthermore, the About Phone section looks way better now as the user interface has been overhauled entirely. And OnePlus has already added November 2018 security patches to the OnePlus 6 which even Google did not release to the Pixel smartphones. Notably, the OnePlus 6T received OxygenOS 9.0.4 update earlier today which also added the November 2018 patches.
OnePlus also stated that the update brings improvements to screenshot capturing. Moving onto other features, the OnePlus Launcher receives a new Google quick search box design, and the OnePlus Gallery app has gotten better now.
The two major features added by OnePlus with the OxygenOS Open Beta 6 update are Nightscape and Studio Lighting. These two features were introduced with the OnePlus 6T. For the unaware, Nightscape mode is something very similar to Google's Night Sight mode as it produces better images in low light. Talking about Studio Lighting, it helps in producing better Portrait shots as opposed to earlier.
OxygenOS Open Beta 6 for OnePlus 6: How to Install?
Here comes the major part. When OnePlus said that it's going to roll out the Nightscape and Studio Lighting features to the OnePlus 6, everyone assumed that the company would add the features to OxygenOS stable ROM, but that's not the case. OnePlus, instead, released these features to the Open Beta users with the Open Beta 6 update.
For the users who're already on Open Beta programme, an OTA will be rolled out, while for the first time Open Beta users, the company has detailed the entire process.
If a user is not running the Open Beta software earlier, here's how to install the Open Beta ROM manually. First of all, download the latest Open Beta ROM by heading over to the OnePlus Forums download page. After downloading, head over to the System Updates section inside the Settings app, and hit the Gear icon on top right. After hitting, you'll be presented with an option- Local Upgrade- click on that and select the ROM file you downloaded. Wait for the installation to finish and you'll be running Open Beta 6 after the device boots.
Once you migrate to the Beta path, you will continue to receive Open Beta OTAs. You will no longer receive the regular Official Stable OTAs. Moving back to the Official OTA path from the Beta path will require a full install and clean flash.
