Netflix has become an immensely popular platform in India ever since its launch in the country. However, there is no shortage of people who find the service a little more overpriced in comparison to all the other competitors out there. To solve that problem, Netflix was testing a mobile-only subscription plan in India from a few months, but finally today the company has launched this offer for the Indian subscribers of Netflix. After a lot of testing period, the service has been priced at Rs 199 per month, and it will only stream the movies and TV shows in SD. It is also worth noting that this plan by Netflix is available only for mobile and tablet users and viewers will be able to access Netflix on these devices only. Moreover, these plans have been tailor-made by the company for a price-sensitive market like India, where the data consumption is at all-time high.
Netflix Mobile Only Rs 199 Plan Details
There is no doubt that the mobile-only plan from Netflix is priced much cheaper at Rs 199 as compared to the other plans from the service, which start at Rs 499. This plan brings features like SD streaming on one screen only. There is also no option to cast the content on TV screens. Netflix has also said that more people sign up on the platform from mobile in India than from any other country, as such, mobile users are very important for Netflix in India and hence the company has rolled out this plan. With this new plan, Netflix aims to compete with the likes of other video-on-demand platforms like Hotstar or Amazon Prime Video.
Other Plans by Netflix
It is worth noting that besides this new plan of Rs 199, Netflix also has other plans which include Rs 499, Rs 649 and Rs 799. To recall, during the period of testing for this plan, Netflix had introduced the service for Rs 250, but it seems that the platform has now changed its mind and it is going to offer its service for an even lower price of Rs 199. The other platforms like Hotstar charge Rs 299 per month, whereas Amazon bundles its Music and Video streaming service in its Prime membership, which is priced at Rs 129 per month.
Ajay Arora, Director, Product Innovation, Netflix said, "Our members in India watch more on their mobiles than members anywhere else in the world – and they love to download our shows and films. We believe this new plan will make Netflix even more accessible and better suit for people who like to watch on their smartphones or tablets – both on the go and at home.” He also added that this new plan would be an effective way to introduce a larger number of people in India to Netflix.
