After teasing its next-generation Android Wear-based smartwatch, Motorola has finally announced the Moto 360 (2015) during IFA 2015. Unlike last year, the Motorola Moto 360 (2015) now comes in two different sizes and a special collection for women. Motorola has also announced the Moto 360 Sport that is targeted towards sports and fitness junkies.
The Motorola Moto 360 (2015) features the same almost circular display with a ‘flat tire’ at the bottom as its predecessor, but will now be offered in two sizes, a larger version with a 46mm dial and a smaller version with a 42mm dial. All these smartwatches come with performance as well as battery life improvements when compared to last year’s model.
Motorola is also offering easily swappable band replacement mechanism. There’s a separate collection for women with some elegant and unique colour options that can be chose while customising the watch in the Moto Maker section that will be available in the US, Mexico, France, Germany, and the UK. If you’re wondering about the thickness of the Moto 360 (2015), all the watch variants are 11.4 mm thick.
Coming back the the specifications, the Moto 360 (2015) features an LED backlit display with a resolution of 360 x 325 pixels. The 46mm variant has a 1.56-inch display, while the 42mm and women’s variant features a 1.37-inch display. Of course, these displays are protected using Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 to save them from scratches and scuffs.
Motorola has replaced TI OMAP processor in favour of a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 305 GPU. There’s 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity, a dual-microphone setup, and a bunch of sensors including heart-rate sensor, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and an ambient-light sensor. There’s wireless charging capability, and Motorola says that these watches can last upto one full day with ambient mode turned on.
