Reliance Jio, the high-flying telecom network in India has been unstoppable ever since its official launch. On December 1, the Mukesh Ambani-led company announced the extension of their ‘Welcome Offer’ till March 31 under the new name- ‘Jio Happy New Year.'
As promised, the company is now converting all the welcome offer users to Jio New Year Offer. As a conversion note, the company is also pushing an SMS to the users saying that their number is now being to converted to new year offer and free services can be enjoyed till March 31, 2017.
This is not the first time we see this kind of migration of the company. Previously in September, Jio converted all their ‘Preview Offer’ users to welcome offer.
Also, it is worth noticing that the New Year Offer is different from Welcome Offer in some ways. For example, in the welcome offer, the daily data cap was 4GB. However, the daily data cap is limited to 1GB. This move came especially because Jio believes that most of the users in India do not use 4G data beyond 1GB.
There are no changes to the offer apart from this daily data cap limitation. The free voice calling, Jio Digital apps, daily 100 SMS remains the same. Reliance Jio is slowly migrating all the users to their New Year Offer, and we believe that the process will continue for next few days.
Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom network and also the Jio’s direct competitor recently opposed the free 4G services extension of Jio by filing a case to TRAI. And, TRAI quickly responded to Airtel and asked explanation from Jio and the new entrant gave an explanation on how welcome offer is different from new year offer and things seems to be settled for now.
Ever since the entrance of Reliance Jio, other telecom operators in India cut down the prices of their plans and started offering free voice calling with almost every plan. That being said, we are expecting the offers rain to continue till March 2017 as well.
