India Adds 6.5 Million GSM Subscribers in September – Uninor Leads

One of India’s youngest GSM Mobile Service operator Uninor has added a total of 1.92 million GSM subscribers which are the highest number of new mobile subscriber additions followed by IDEA Cellular which has added 1.74 million new subscribers in September 2011, data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) showed.

COAI today released the GSM subscriber base for September 2011, the new additions continue at a less growth rates compare to all previous months. For the third month in a row, subscriber addition continued to decline. Total 6.5 million new subscribers added in September taking the all-India GSM cellular subscriber base to 618.28 million at the end of September 2011.

Among the leading GSM Mobile Service Operators, Vodafone Essar added 848,204 new customers, boosting its subscriber base 145 million. Bharti Airtel notched up 935,947 new subscribers during the month, taking its total base to 172.8 million.

State run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) manged 450351 new subscribers boosting its subscriber base 91 million while AIRCEL increased its base by over 603260 customers to take its subscriber base to 59.79 million. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) added just 30712 new users during the month, boosting its total base to 5.32 million at the end of Sept, 2011.

Please note : COAI GSM Subscriber base does not include the Reliance Communications and Tata Docomo’s GSM subscriber Base (same not submitted to COAI).

Uninor in Haryana: First Experience My Uninor SIM is active now and I can access Uninor’s network(IND 813) in my town. Bought it for Rs.20. Asked the dealer not to recharge with FRC as waiting for some offers by the company. Called CC @121 (call transferred the moment I pressed the button to select language) to know where else the BTS have been installed in Haryana and no. of BTS, commercial launch date etc.. He said Sir, our services has been started all over Haryana and at places where we haven’t setup our own BTS yet, you can select Vodafone… Read more »

@Vishal, I don’t know about other cities but in our town Naraingarh and Ambala City/Cantt (Main). Karnal main also, signals are live from one year. I have posted info. on my blog( also regarding this and image is also there confirming what I’m saying.. As far as Yamunanagar is concerned I wrote before in some other article here that I visited there and while searching for network I got IND 813 (which is for Uninor Haryana). The signals were also live in Jagadhri, Bilaspur, Sadhaura etc. I don’t know whether it is still live there or not as I didn’t… Read more »
